Re: X-Men Movies Thread

The whole MCU is about to get rebooted, so they can introduce mutants when and however they want... ;) But, have a feeling they'll do a Spiderman, assume everyone already knows the X-canon, and that folks won't be surprised when a new actor stays in character as Wolverine. Not that there's much the...

Re: Article on all the Disney live action remakes of animated classics

No-win? Yes, probably, in terms of failing to gain mass acceptance. But I give them a win for Burton's Dumbo already, based on the trailers. I've got a good feeling about that one; it has potential to be one of his better films, mixing the odd with some real emotion. I missed the mice in the Cinder...

Re: Article on all the Disney live action remakes of animated classics

But this new film will make Dumbo new again, just as Aladdin will, and Lion King will. Nostalgia for the originals will spike (as evidenced by this thread) and these properties will get shots in the arm for both the original and new versions, just as the older schedule of reissuing the classics use...

Re: Article on all the Disney live action remakes of animated classics

There's just no creative reason for a film like the new Aladdin to exist. I am curious to see how it comes out, because I'm a curious guy, and I'm interested in how they achieve this (for better or worse); but it's not something I would have greenlit. We're starting to reach the saturation point wh...

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+

I'd be astonished if SOTS showed up on their streaming service, at least without a very cautious home video release first. And in today's climate, it seems unlikely that Disney would be wanting to stir that particular pot. And besides, we're still waiting for Bob Iger to retire. Reportedly, there's...

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+

Nice to see the reaction hasn't gone into Chicken Little mode (heh, see what I did there?) , and in ten seconds started screaming like a girl that "Disney's doing away with the Vault?...They're getting rid of Blu/DVD! It's the END OF PHYSICAL!!!! " ...Nnnno. It means that, since th...

(But then, if you did, you probably went to see "Alice Through the Looking Glass", too. 'Nuff said.)

Re: Scooby-Doo! Theatrical animated movie just announced

So, the last two movies were trying to cash in on Cartoon Network's 00's HB-bullying, this one--until we see lame gags otherwise--seem like they've noticed the audience has shifted, and they're pitching their vintage HB demographics to the loyal Archive crowd. The ones who ARE buying the obscure-ser...

Re: Gremlins Cartoon series coming for WB's Streaming service

Sony actually has a bunch of franchises that I don’t think it really even knows it has! Outside of GB, the early-mid 80s were good to them in setting up a number of titles that could be mined with franchise potential. You wouldn't believe the directions Sony has gone in pursuit of trying to find th...

Re: Oscar Contest 2019 - 15th Anniversary!

Not having a host seemed to help keep things moving, and this also avoided too many lame moments, or running gags that overstay their welcome (pizza, anyone?). In the 90's, the joke was "Snow White". In the 00's, it was "Dance numbers". And now, for the 10's onwards, we'll hear ...

Re: Gremlins Cartoon series coming for WB's Streaming service

Of course, if Ghostbusters III is a hit (and a big one) then we’ll also get that "proper" Gremlins threequel movie too. BRING BACK JOE DANTE!! Glad to see we're not counting Melissa McCarthy as "G3", and Sony's desperate attempt to create their own "House franchise" (w...

Re: Gremlins Cartoon series coming for WB's Streaming service

Yep, it's on the list of Warner Auditionees, as they're going through a list of their past 80's-90's cult hits trying to find the "new house franchise" to fill in the sudden studio void left by Harry & Newt, Frodo & Bilbo, and Batman/Justice League. I know they've been putting Will...

Anyone (like, opportunistically culture-parasiting singers with little guy-eyes and big guy-shoulders) who think it began with a 70's Barbara Streisand movie about rock singers, needs to. ALSO desperately.

...OHHHhhh! I WONDERED how an American version was going to handle the Japanese movie's plot revolving around an ancient rural shrine.

Re: Disney's Frozen

Was it me or did they have her running into the ocean at least one or two too many times. It got repetitive and verged on boring, without her really developing in those moments. Disney only teases their movies with ONE big money-gag they're proud of (remember Baymax and the soccer ball, Ralph and t...
