Re: New Popular Film Oscar

Again, that's (ABC's?) problem of using the P-word to "solve the TV problem", rather than use the Wide/Independent distinction to say what's an Infinity War and what's a Three Billboards. Or why "The Walk" could be a big-studio wide-release independent movie that wasn't Popular. ...

...So, Richard Parker is often confused for some kind of "tiger", I'm guessing?

Re: New Popular Film Oscar

If it is honestly about wanting to cut time etc, they need to do what I regularly suggest. You present the awards. The only 'entertainment' is the nominated songs get performed and have an In Memoriam. Scrap all the silly tributes and montages. They tried to do just that on Jon Stewart's second hos...

It’s Paramount, not Panasonic (which *does* get affectionately known as Panny in certain tech circles)! :)

Haven't heard anyone gripe about "Panny" since Avatar was taken "hostage" during the Blu-ray 3D days!

Re: New Popular Film Oscar

Wrote a good reply here and analysis on this new "Popular Oscar", already being derogatorily referred to as the Popcorn Oscar, but my pad gave up its battery before I could hit post and I lost it. Oh well, not going through that again. Back in 1929, the first Oscars had the idea of separa...

Re: New Popular Film Oscar

But hey, that way the media might have actually been comparing Inside Out with Room! News flash: The media WAS. And Inside Out was winning . Back in '15, the Academy was all set to finally reduce the nominees to five, until after May, and then...er, let's keep the Animated Best Picture vote in one ...

Re: 1986 Transformers the movie returns to the big-screen!

It's the two studio traditions: There's movies being SOLD at Christmas, like Mary Poppins-- And there's movies being dumped at Christmas, like Mortal, Battle Angel, and Aquaman. (Yes, Spidey would probably be better as Sony's comic-book entry for the March Geek-Week stakes, it'd have just as much co...

Re: 1986 Transformers the movie returns to the big-screen!

Paramount certainly wants to play the 80's vibe to sell the Bumblebee movie as its own entity, away from, y'know, those other Transformers movies. Now, let's get a look at the new audience's faces when they find out the '86 TF:TM was the movie that Hasbro made to kill off the first line of toy chara...

Re: The new Jungle Book

Except that it was never Andy Serkis's goal to "take on Disney's Jungle Book," so... Are you that determined to take EVERYTHING that literally? (Seriously, you've been getting these wrong for the last few threads, you might want to take a break and dial back a bit on the diligent ...

Re: The new Jungle Book

Normally, we still say that a failed Not-Coming-To-a-Theater-Near-You release would be going "Direct to video", except that studios, of course, don't believe that home video exists anymore. So now they "premiere" it on a streaming service (which are starving enough for movies tha...

Re: X-Men Movies Thread

They said its a possibility that these two movies could see release on some streaming/television/Bluray platform years from now, but only after Disney has fully developed its own X-Men Universe." New Mutants was reportedly already in reshoots, so if we see it downgraded to a Netflix movie, you...

Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and DC MOVIES

As for Shazam...yeah, it wasn’t quite what I was expecting either, and for some reason I’m totally not fully buying Levi, who either doesn’t feel "solid" enough or looks too big and cartoony. I’m not sure which. Obviously he will get an arc, and they’re picking up on 80s nostalgia with th...

Re: Avengers and the MCU

Actually...I did. Sat in the theatre and got so easily bored at the relentless random jokes, looooong tally middle bit and then a finale that was just a bunch of gods beating up on each other. It’s no wonder that the same afternoon, just as I was about to head home, that I figured I may as well pun...

Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and DC MOVIES

As for the Shazam teaser...egad, were they TRYING to do a remake of the Ryan Reynolds "Green Lantern"?? I haven't seen the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern .. but from what I understand -- aside from the awkwardly 'cheeky' tone of the main character -- it perhaps tried to cram too much of the ...

Re: Avengers and the MCU

Is Eric trying to say that Thor 3 was a failure now, or...? It was a box-office hit because very few Marvel movies aren't, but, a week later...were YOU proud of the Willy Wonka/Disneyland gag either? Waititi certainly wanted to create his "own" version of Gunn's fratboy-Guardians goofines...
