Re: X-Men Movies Thread

After a mad week I needed to unwind so took the chance to catch a movie I hadn’t seen yet. I’m halfway through watching X-Men: Apocalypse and...my gawd, it’s bad. Sorry to those who liked, but this is totally out of step with all the other X-films (yes, even Last Stand), especially tonally. It’s cl...

Re: Incredibles 2

On another topic, apparently the title is "Incredibles 2" and not "The Incredibles 2"? Disney's page lists it one way but Pixar's the other. Uh-oh: When movie sequel/franchise titles lose their proper grammatical articles, it's usually a sign of too many rewrites... (One of my o...

Re: Ant-Man

And an ACTUAL canonical Marvel villain this time (the Ghost, who used to hack Tony Stark's company), instead of Evil Script-Improvised Guy from the first movie. Yes, Ant-Man still doesn't have any villains of his "own", but at least after Civil War, he's in the group canon that they can cr...

Re: DuckTales: The Movie "Widescreen" question

Think the Movie was originally a collection of TV episodes, before it was upgraded to the new movie marketing--
To be a native Widescreen 16:9 movie, it would have had to been groomed for the bigscreen from scratch, and this supposedly wasn't.

Re: DISNEY BUYS 20TH CENTURY FOX

Translation: Some of the rest of us are just NOW realizing that it's not Marvel we're sick of "flooding us with stupid-hero movies", it's Fox. Took us danged long enough to figure that out. (As for Warner, Wonder Woman pretty well clinched the argument on that one.) Almost as long as it to...

Re: DISNEY BUYS 20TH CENTURY FOX

The X-Men films, however, are the poster children for repeating themes, not to mention focusing overly on the same characters while ignoring others, and spotlighting the same relationships and conflicts over and over again. Fox's X-Men films are now the poster child for the one problem everyone dee...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

I don't think that this film was ever NOT going to be this trilogy's Empire. But I didn't find it nearly as derivative of Episode V as I found Force Awakens to be derivative of Episode IV. Last Jedi still managed to be very much its own thing. Certain similarities are almost unavoidable, really. Sn...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

Basically, like JJ Abrams set out to "homage" the original Star Wars, Rian Johnson decided it was his own destiny in life to do the "New-trilogy Empire Strikes Back"-- And in addition to going through every major plot point in Empire AND Jedi (even the Falcon flying through the s...

Re: Coco

Of course, the article you cited clearly states that the Olaf film was always planned as a limited engagement, and was scheduled to end in two weeks anyway. What you stated doesn't contradict that, but your post leaves the wrong impression. Olaf may have been unpopular, but he wasn't "pulled&q...

Re: Coco

Latest news is that theater audiences have had a little TOO MUCH of Olaf at the beginning--some even deliberately arriving late--and Disney is pulling the Frozen short as of Friday. http://ew.com/movies/2017/12/03/olafs-frozen-adventure-pulled-coco/ (Cinemark's theater page now offers the date, and ...

Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and DC MOVIES

At least we still have the DC TV shows. So with whatever good reviews it gets comparing it to the Justice League cartoon, we're back to "DC Animation gets it because the print-comic people are in charge, the live-action movies don't." A compliment often given to Warner/DC's you-know-who r...

Re: Gigantic

I thought the heroine was kind of cute, too, and was looking forward to it as much as Ralph 2. :) The faux-Flynn hero, and the implicit relationship undertones, not so much. Looking back at the first-announcement posts from '15, I'd thought it was a mutation of whatever happened to that announced pr...

Re: Spies in Disguise

According to Variety, Fox wants to "strengthen their animation division at the studio, and set BlueSky in motion to direct a new film every year, with several projects already in the works..." ...Oh, DO they? Think Ferdinand has a little something to say about that first. ;) (And ever sinc...

Re: Peter Rabbit (2018)

Wait, Paddingdon was "snarky"? Did I see a different movie or something? ;) "Dismissively self-aware quirky", then, from British writers who wanted to distance themselves from "kiddy tea-time", and "apologize" to the grownup parents in the theater by playing ...

Re: Peter Rabbit (2018)

The trailer for the new Peter Rabbit movie is so bad it defies comprehension. What in the name of God is this garbage??? If it was British, it would be as snarkily "clever" about dismissing its material* as Paddington-- But no, this is Sony in the good ol' USA, who discovered in the 10's ...
