Re: Condorito & other miscellaneous animated fare

Nope, never had LD, just the 20th Anniversary DVD, which was the first time I ever realized they'd done that animated Boston "Evening at Pops" opening before moving out west. Saw that opening a hundred times, growing up, and now can't even find a decent YouTube of it. :x (Spot How EricJ is...

Re: Condorito & other miscellaneous animated fare

Actually, that's the Lisberger Studios logo, which became their famous Boston radio commercial--If you lived in New England in the late 70's, you'd know that. 8)

Re: Condorito & other miscellaneous animated fare

But director Steve Lisberger got enough attention from Disney to go on to bigger projects...Some 80's video-game thingy his studio was pitching, wasn't it? ;)

Re: Upcoming animated films calendar and date changes

Duck Duck Goose is no longer listed on Box Office Mojo's release schedule. It was set to come out this Friday. Looks like Sgt. Stubby took that representative April-disposable slot instead...So much for bad Dreamworks-cloning Chinese studios. (And having sat through the DDG trailer, "No loss&q...

Re: Avengers, Justice League and more in READY PLAYER ONE!

So, do you recommend I see The Shining too, then? My HD-DVD is still in shrink-wrap. If you haven't yet, A), it's good to add to your Stanley Kubrick IQ, and B ) it's good to see the Three Scenes Everyone Remembers now in their original creepy form, before they're spoiled by being turned into goofy...

Re: Avengers, Justice League and more in READY PLAYER ONE!

Funny enough, we’re running The Shining tonight in our theater for a friend who - gasp! - has never seen it (not as bad as not having seen Jaws, though, wink-wink, Rand!). When he asked to see it, I did think "oh, good, that’ll prime him for when we get the RPO 4K in a couple of months!" ...

Re: Avengers, Justice League and more in READY PLAYER ONE!

Not bad for a country that never saw The Shining. Japan posters. Have to love the Warriors of the Wind quality of Japan's posters: The T-rex is in only one scene, Harley, Deadpool and Ryu are almost invisible, Batman and Freddy last about three seconds each, the henchman-doodster is drawn as ...

Re: Avengers, Justice League and more in READY PLAYER ONE!

$300m worldwide! It's americas highest grossing movie in china this year so far. Whereas Tom Cruise in "The Mummy" had the underpants beaten off of it, and finally persuaded Universal to give up their evil insane dream. (Much like Sony had to when "Ghostbusters" was banned.) Sor...

Re: Avengers, Justice League and more in READY PLAYER ONE!

(ironically, its next big threat is another Warners title, Rampage. That wasn’t terrific thinking on their part, huh). Oh, they knew what they were doing: RP1 was designed to be the Big Easter Spring-Break Geek Title, but if a not-too-looked-forward-to title opens in the second half of April, it's ...

Re: Avengers, Justice League and more in READY PLAYER ONE!

Pirates 5 and transformers 5 wasn't the second highest opening ever for a wb movie in china. Only because Warcraft wasn't a WB movie, either. (I think we're missing the key point here, which I remember blogging about in a moment of passion after the named event: http://movieactivist.blogspot...

Re: Avengers, Justice League and more in READY PLAYER ONE!

Huge hit in china. Opened with $60m! https://twitter.com/weier1231997/status/980419440230584320?s=19 Are we still excited about that, after Transformers 5 and Pirates 5? :? Followed by next week's headline about how it dropped catastrophically the next week, because Chinese audiences didn't "g...

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

I believe by "Tex at Warner," EricJ was referring to Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons directed by Tex Avery. Droopy was an M-G-M character. ...Now apologize to the nice folks for being wrong , Ben! :P And yes, while having the great miscellaneous non-Droopy Tex MGM's like "M...

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

Get in line, this's the double-dip for Droopy, and we STILL haven't gotten a generic Tex Avery at MGM collection outside of VHS.

(And Tex at Warner? They don't even remember he was ever there.)

Re: X-Men Movies Thread

the Quicksilver scene has none of the fun/awesomeness/even somewhat sublime quality of its DOFP predecessor, (“dutiful” and “leaden” are about right), I dunno, thought using "Time in a Bottle" was too Singer-yuk-yuk in DOFP, but all of XM:A was somehow redeemed by the hip civil-disobedien...
