Re: DuckTales: The Movie "Widescreen" question

I dunno. I don't think Ben sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

;)

Kidding!

OK, mystery solved!

Re: DuckTales: The Movie "Widescreen" question

I am guessing it was 4:3 to begin with, but cannot say for sure.

Re: DISNEY BUYS 20TH CENTURY FOX

The MCU films certainly have excelled at operating in different genres, and that is one of their greatest strengths. Still, there is a sameness about them. As much as I love them, there are similar story points that tend to come up, though that's part of being within the greater superhero genre. &qu...

Re: DISNEY BUYS 20TH CENTURY FOX

I would shed no tears over Blue Sky not making more films, though I'd certainly feel bad for their staff if they close. Meanwhile, DWA has meandered into mediocrity, unfortunately. Still, you make a good point. More variety, and more studios is a better way to have things.

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

I don't think that this film was ever NOT going to be this trilogy's Empire. But I didn't find it nearly as derivative of Episode V as I found Force Awakens to be derivative of Episode IV. Last Jedi still managed to be very much its own thing. Certain similarities are almost unavoidable, really.

Re: 2017 Best Animated Feature

Yes, so much "meh" in the American films this year. Agreed. Big box office, perhaps; but still, lots of "meh." :(

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

I hear what you're saying (though you nearly lost me at "bad/blatant diversity," until you explained what you meant), and I do hope that the majority embrace it. I do, however, recall a lot of fuss being made by a few nuts about having a black person being a hero in Star Wars: The Force Aw...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

Exactly. Everyone needs role models, and it IS important that younger viewers especially see heroes on screen that they can identify with. While watching Miss Tran's engaging performance, I thought it was really wonderful that young Asian girls (in particular, that is) have her character to look up ...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

It was almost odd just how relatively small the stakes were in this one. Yes, much hinged on the outcome, but as Lotso said, no planets were being blown up. And the biggest chase scene, taking up most of the film, was practically a slow-motion affair. I liked the film a lot, but it was in many ways ...

Re: Marvel Rising Animated Movie with Squirrel Girl and Ms Marvel coming to the big-screen!

It's great to see any female heroes take prominence, and this project has lots. (Not to mention DC's Wonder having a great year, as well as the Star Wars heroines.)

Re: DISNEY BUYS 20TH CENTURY FOX

I am always concerned about corporations getting huger and huger. And there may still be a chance that the deal may be blocked if governments agencies don't like the terms. Having said that, I'd love to see Spidey interact with the Human Torch on screen. And an end of the current cycle of X-films. P...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

My son and I have tix for Saturday morning, which was the only time I could squeeze in a theatre visit this weekend. A morning matinee! That feels special unto itself.

Reviews have been very encouraging, and I'm getting more excited to see it every day. Dan went tonight. How'd that go, Dan?

Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and DC MOVIES

Depending who you believe, there may be up to 3 Harley films in development, though one of those might be Suicide Squad 2. Yeah, it feels like Warner is busy counting their pre-hatchling chickens again. Of course, all studios have multiple films in development, but Warner needs to slow down on the p...

Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and DC MOVIES

The absence of Harley Quinn alone makes the list seem wonky. As the artic le states, there are others that are known to be getting developed that aren't on that list. One not mentioned is Man of Steel 2, which sounds like will happen. I hope.

Re: Coco

Of course, the article you cited clearly states that the Olaf film was always planned as a limited engagement, and was scheduled to end in two weeks anyway. What you stated doesn't contradict that, but your post leaves the wrong impression. Olaf may have been unpopular, but he wasn't "pulled&qu...
