"Not to show these things would be just as bad as saying that they never happened" , or words to the effect — Leonard Maltin, any number of Walt Disney Treasures DVD intros.

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+

No surprise there, but just as I said to Rand in a recent email, I bet he’s kicking himself over letting the entire Miramax library go for so cheap just a few years back.

Such a shame that those films, and that of the Touchstone label, have been so overlooked under Iger's tenure.

Re: Forum Update 2019

Yeah...thems are the ones I just delete without thinking about. We had around seven of those last week. I still think we should delete all the users that ever only made one post. Pretty much all of those are spams or bots that I just deleted quickly without going through the whole removing user rout...

Re: Missing Link, Laika's new adventure

I’d pay to see Aladdin Vs Godzilla!

There’s too much product out there, simply put. And it’s not about competition because everyone basically wants to see the same handful of movies, so the big ones win big and the smaller ones don’t even stand a chance of making even half their money back.

Re: Missing Link, Laika's new adventure

You didn’t specify. May's "first" blockbuster could easily still come at the end of the month. They usually do.

I have literally no idea what Wonder Park thinks it’s doing by even existing! Welcome to Skydance, JL! ;)

Re: Interesting essay on The Force Awakens

SW has always reacted to the fans' wishes. Empire was the first and only film that stuck to its guns. There’s a reason Kurtz and Kasdan left through Jedi, and that’s because George started to let the fans dictate. Ewoks? Let’s sell more toys with what are the reverse of Wookiees. Even the name is a ...

Re: Missing Link, Laika's new adventure

Yeah...those pesky Marvel movies. Taking up the end of May that’s traditionally been a big blockbuster weekend slot since Star Wars opened around the same date some 42 years ago.

Re: Missing Link, Laika's new adventure

Brit reviewers are raving about this. Seems it has a very Aardman-esque sensibility about it, backed up by the Brits' love of stop-motion. It’s already on my list of discs to pick up.

Re: The Lion King Remake

Never saw that Coppola Mermaid clip. Yeah, too real! Rest assured, Rob Marshall's Mermaid, which is not stuck in development at all and could even start shooting by year's end, will be the Beauty And The Beast style version, for good or bad. But with Poppins behind him, I’m willing to give Marshall ...

Re: The Lion King Remake

Um...Mermaid was converted to 3D (I have the Blu-ray) and was only axed for theatrical because the others hadn’t performed that well (because they were all on home video already!). Mermaid is next up for the live-action treatment, with Lin Manuel Miranda co-writing new songs with Alan Menken for dir...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

Agreed. I was so pleased when he was announced, and can only hope he fixes, as best as can be hoped for given the circumstances, the clusterfudge that was The Last Jedi. Not liking that title, though. "Rise Of..." anything always sounds so fanboyish, and I’ve never understood using it for the end of...

Re: Disney Making two 2-D Films? Return of 2-D Animation at disney?

I don’t get anywhere that these have anything to do with Disney...? Although just as with Netflix, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Disney+ lap up a bunch of lower budget hand-drawn and CG features and slap their Disney+Originals banner on them as the service expands and gets hungry for Disney-quality...

Re: The Lion King Remake

I still don’t see the point of this. Photorealism? Apply it to something new! (It's *not* live-action!) This is kind of like that shot for shot remake of Psycho. As I’ve said before, so much of it is lifted from the original movie it’s like that’s just an elaborate storyboard now. I don’t see how th...
