Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and DC MOVIES

Funny you mention the Aquaman setting, since I struggled to see that it *was* water! For the most part it just looked like they were all floating around in space, especially with some of those spaceship-y flying things. And a whole bunch of Avatar-ness thrown in. Along with some really dodgy CGI (an...

It’s okay...I don’t really get what he’s talking about either...

Re: Avengers and the MCU

Actually...I did. Sat in the theatre and got so easily bored at the relentless random jokes, looooong tally middle bit and then a finale that was just a bunch of gods beating up on each other. And they’re gods, so it’s kind of redundant. They can’t get hurt, they can’t die (yes, I’m incliding Hulk i...

Re: Avengers and the MCU

Disney knew he was a naughty hot potato when they hired him for Guardians. In fact, that’s *why^ they hired him for Guardians. But that was also back when those tweets had faded. Anything resurfacing these days is just as good as being posted as new, since people who missed them first time don’t tak...

Re: Criterion Collection

Yes, you should! It’s a de Palma, so it could go either way (despite ambition, I find him a strangely inept filmmaker, schlocky at best).

Re: Criterion Collection

Disc. And Criterion had a Princess Bride LD out back in the day, so they’re only getting back their rights on that. MGM's films are not PD or quasi-PD...they’re in a jam and need money, so are licensing their library out to anyone...Twilight Time, Shout! Factory, Criterion, various UK labels... MGM ...

I think, even though I’m not the hugest PB fan, that you made the right choice! ;)

Re: Criterion Collection

After many years of remembering that I - gasp! - didn’t enjoy this very much as a kid, we literally sat down a couple of months ago to finally give it another go and watch it properly in our new theatre room. While it was slyer than I remember, I’d completely forgotten that this has one of the worst...

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

Well said, Ben . :) I have to admit, reading over the complaints in the linked review, I was like .. "dude -- do you even know what Warner Archive is all about..? " He even says that if the same collection had been released in the days of Laserdisc, that Porky 101 would've been lauded as ...

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

I think the bottom line with Porky was that it’s cool we get these at all. I know some folks have to gripe, and yes it would be great to have them all restored in both content and quality (or even that black and white material is properly drained of all color-crosstalk, a basic but often overlooked ...

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

Droo...that may explain things, but not in the Reeverse! ;) Eric, Szwarc was actually a half decent director who got saddled with bad scripts or low budgets. When he got something worthwhile, he could shine as well as any other director of the time, as the vastly underrated Jaws 2 shows. Now, again,...

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

Supergirl, to me, feels more like it came from a decade earlier, with its new-agey tone and TV-movie style antics. There are some things to like and, like Superman III, when it gets a bit more serious (as in the trip through the Phantom Zone), it can start to get close to being really good, but then...

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

The "international cut" is the actual correct version of the film. It was original distributor TriStar who cut it down further for the US market, and as such this was never an "official" version (despite being released theatrically in the US!) owned by Warner Bros. Since this ver...
