Re: X-Men Movies Thread

After a mad week I needed to unwind so took the chance to catch a movie I hadn’t seen yet. I’m halfway through watching X-Men: Apocalypse and...my gawd, it’s bad. Sorry to those who liked, but this is totally out of step with all the other X-films (yes, even Last Stand), especially tonally. It’s cle...

Re: Criterion Collection

I’ve often thought that (who hasn’t!?), but my big problem would be "what to get", not really in being able to choose whatever I wanted, but more because I’m pretty up to date on all the Criterion Blu-rays I’m after! ;)

Re: Criterion Collection

So...one wonders why Lee is working with Criterion.......

Great choices (another reason to remember that, as much as we love comic book characters and animation, they’re all made because of the wider influences of the larger medium and it’s many films and history), and I definitely second Seconds!

Re: Ant-Man

Awesome...a real comic book movie!

I hope the whole thing doesn’t just hang around one massive car chase in the middle of the film, though, which this trailer kind of implies, but I’m guessing they’re just showing us the big trailer moments right now.

Looks big fun though!

Re: Condorito

Did. Not. See. That. Coming. I jumped in given Droo's exuberance, and was half expecting a Ratatouille/Turbo rip-off about a little bird making his mark in a different world, when the aliens arrived and everything went wacko! I actually enjoyed Storks a lot (certainly more than any of the Lego movie...

Re: DuckTales: The Movie "Widescreen" question

Is it not the Disney Exclusive disc you have?

If not, don’t worry...the later wider retail disc uses the exact same transfer. There’s only one widescreen version of DTTM out on DVD. :)

Re: DuckTales: The Movie "Widescreen" question

Okay... Firstly, DTTM wasn’t ever a bunch of episodes: it was developed and animated by a new division, Disney MovieToons, in France, intended to be the first in a series of lower budget films that would utilise the classic Disney characters and fill in the gaps between the bigger Feature Animation ...

Re: AV Readers' Choice Poll of 2017 Animated Films

Proving how memorable it was!

I do notice Rock Dog is now in the poll.Discounting Dacey's vote aside ( ;) ) I wonder if it will get any genuine (as in, no joke) votes anyway! Maybe from the director or home video distributor!?

It’s actually my bet for the outsider spot at the Oscars! ;)

Re: Disney Removes Louis C.K. from Gravity Falls

To be fair, it’s just a couple of guest spots on a couple of TV episodes, not like a major recurring character or anything. The bigger obstacle is Spacey in Bug's Life, but then again that film seems to have faded from view anyhoo. I’d expect them not to play it up too much except for when they do a...

Re: AV Readers' Choice Poll of 2017 Animated Films

Wow...so not a banner year. :(

A couple to admire, and one or two clear commercial pleasers, but nothing that has proven zeitgeisty or will probably go down as a classic in years to come.
