Re: Condorito & other miscellaneous animated fare

Another animated feature I've been hoping to see stateside -- which apparently does exist in an 'english-dubbed' form -- is the french movie Zombillénium , an adaptation of the BD album series by cartoonist/designer extraordinaire Arthur de Pins (who also makes his directorial debut with this film!)...

Re: Condorito

Yeah, a fairer comparison in terms of animation quality may be to the likes of A Monster in Paris or The Nut Job films. And the plot is 'paper-thin' .. but definitely keeps things moving with fun sight gags and 'out-of-nowhere' twists on movie tropes. There's even a fleeting bit of 'heart' no...

Re: DuckTales: The Movie "Widescreen" question

It was actually once common practice to shoot feature animation at 1.33:1, with the intention of cropping the top & bottom of frame for 'theatrical' release. I know for certain that Don Bluth filmed The Secret of NIMH and An American Tail in this fashion. Compare the 'widescreen' versions of tho...

Re: Manga & Anime THREAD

Granted .. Mazinger-Z is a bit of an acquired taste; the original TV show is rather infamous for its cheap 're-used' animation, repetitive 'fight-of-the-week' stories & over-the-top cheesiness. I saw bits & pieces of the show when I was a kid (my father was stationed in Japan while in the US...

Coming to theaters in Japan in January 2018 .. and, presumably, to (japanese) Blu-ray & DVD by mid-Spring.

Re: YouTube Goodness

A very short (but nifty!) experimental animation, juxtaposing forced-perspective drawings with a moving mounted camera .. the first half offers a time-lapse overview of the process; the second half features the combined effect:

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

According to Animation Scoop (see the paragraph directly beneath the cover art), pre-orders of Porky 101 direct from Warner Archive should be pressed discs, rather than DVD-Rs.

I dunno if the same applies to orders placed via Amazon or other retailers, though. :|

Re: Disney Parks

Toy Story Mania is still at DCA .. but it was 'out-of-commission' during my visit, last week. :( At least I can look forward to seeing it next time I go! The Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland was likewise closed -- but had a sign out front saying "The Adventure Continues: Spring 2017." Luck...

Re: Disney Parks

I revisited Disneyland & California Adventure earlier this week, for the first time in many years. There is some obvious construction going on at the moment on Tom Sawyer Island, which I presume will be the home of the upcoming Star Wars Land. However, not content to wait that long, it seems Dis...

Re: Disney Pixar's Cars

I visited Disney's California Adventure Park earlier this week, for the first time in several years .. and I was blown away by Cars Land (which was still under construction, during my last visit). Though Cars is not my favorite Pixar title, I cannot deny that Imagineering has managed to perfectly re...

Re: YouTube Goodness

Eh; I'm an O.G. fan .. but I find myself empathizing with Dustin's dad (in the comic strip above) : "There's a Star Wars Day? But why..? It's not like there's a Batman Day, or a James Bond Day. Is that only because you can't make a pun referencing one of their catchphrases on a specific date..?...
