Re: YouTube Goodness

super short, but very nicely-done.

(there's also a fun sting, after the breakdown of the animation passes)

Re: Laika

I got to meet Mr. Vinton briefly, at an animation festival in Hollywood in the early-2000s. Even at that time -- pretty much immediately after being pushed out of the studio he'd founded -- he came across as an affable and cheerful person, with a passion for animated films (of all types) and a posit...

A Wizard's Tale (Here Comes The Grump)

This may be a 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' theatrical release .. but A Wizard's Tale is opening in the US on September 14th (a little over a week from now). Apparently, it will also be available for VOD streaming on the same date. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RmkGNe1cXc This is a remake/adaptation...

Re: New Disney Streaming Service (Disney Play)

It may just be childhood nostalgia, on my part .. but I've always preferred " Walt Disney Productions ". ----------------------- 1980s-era Disney Channel was incredible .. and well-worth paying for. I don't currently subscribe to any streaming services .. but might consider Disney's, if th...

Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and DC MOVIES

I still think Shazam! looks like fun, and was careful to state that its ' Big with a superhero' tone seems 'appropriate' to the source material (as opposed to 'faithful' to the source material). Various creators have written differing 'takes' over the years, anyway .. some (like Jeff Smith) treat Ca...

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

Super-Secret Secret Squirrel was actually pretty cool; a worthy follow-up to the original TV series, IMO. The main difference being that all of the characters are animals .. and the addition of the 'Agent 99-esque' character, Penny. 2 Stupid Dogs is just dumb fun. :) Though, it could be 'repetitive...

Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and DC MOVIES

As for the Shazam teaser...egad, were they TRYING to do a remake of the Ryan Reynolds "Green Lantern"?? Shazam! looks to be the superhero equivalent of Big .. which is 100% appropriate to the source material. I haven't seen the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern .. but from what I understand -- ...

Re: Criterion Collection

I was in my senior year of high school at the time, and took my girlfriend out to the local 2-screen cinema to see Dirty Dancing . Alas; Dirty Dancing was 'sold out' .. but playing on the other screen was this little film neither of us had ever heard of: The Princess Bride . I don't recall seeing a ...

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

Well said, Ben . :) I have to admit, reading over the complaints in the linked review, I was like .. "dude -- do you even know what Warner Archive is all about..? " He even says that if the same collection had been released in the days of Laserdisc, that Porky 101 would've been lauded as a...

Re: WB Archive Collection: DVDs On Demand!

By the way anyone got the porky pig set? Is it worth getting? I'm thinking about it or swat kats. If you have all six volumes of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection boxed DVD sets, then you already have about half of the cartoons on Porky 101 (even the commentaries -- for the cartoons which have the...
