Re: Cinderella - Disney Live-Action Feature
Finally got around to seeing this, and I've got to say, as someone who hasn't exactly been enthusiastic about Disney these past several years, Cinderella managed to earn my respect. Ben - I think my feelings on this film may be the exact opposite of yours, haha. I mentioned in a previous thread that...

Re: Will Disney buy DWA?
And Zack Snyder's and George Miller's, who everyone (including me) tends to forget. When I first read this I thought "Oh yeah, Happy Feet - forgot about that one", but then I remembered that George Miller has never actually been Oscar-nominated as a director (Chris Noonan directed Babe , which is a...

Re: Will Disney buy DWA?
All true, but I guess I just feel like DreamWorks has barely taken any creative risks at all in the past decade or so. Even most of their better films, like Over the Hedge and Kung Fu Panda , have hardly been bold, original ideas. So while I'd love to see DreamWorks do something totally outside of t...

Re: Will Disney buy DWA?
Dang! Jason Reitman? I guess I can see how the story might wind up feeling repetitive, but since when has that not been a problem for DreamWorks? I actually think that this one sounds fairly creative, and while Reitman isn't one of the most amazing directors ever, he's certainly done some good work...

Re: Mulan (Live-action remake)
A live-action Mulan could be amazing, but I'd much rather see it being done in China. I had always been curious to see more traditional, live-action interpretations of the classic stories behind Disney films, but it doesn't seem like Disney has much interest in going that route ( Cinderella notwiths...

Re: How does everyone feel about Disney these days?
I was just reading a the latest issue of Time Magazine, and it has a brief profile on Bob Iger. Apparently he had been planning to step down next year, but is postponing his retirement until 2018.
Has anyone heard anything else about this?

Re: Will Disney buy DWA?
We can all dream, and it's a beautiful fantasy, but I can't see DWA becoming a beacon of hand-drawn animation any time soon...if their films aren't a success now they would just be non-successful films that were hand-drawn, a double nail in the coffin. Couldn't they produce quality, hand-drawn anim...

Re: How does everyone feel about Disney these days?
Haha, he has done that a lot, hasn't he? If you ask me, it's well time that he retires that plot point, unless the story really, really calls for it - which the last two haven't.

Re: How does everyone feel about Disney these days?
I've been thinking about an old post that I read here awhile ago, in which someone said that most of Pixar's films are like "Vanity Projects" - that is, that they're predominately driven by the vision of a single director. Also, a few months ago, I read an article about how Lasseter sought to change...

Re: 2015 Academy Awards
I thought that The Lego Movie deserved Picture, Directing, and Screenplay noms, in addition to Animation. Ironically though, the Song nomination seems kind of silly to me. "Everything is Awesome" is hilarious within the context of the film, but as a standalone song, it's nothing more than okay. As f...

Re: 2015 Academy Awards
Wow... This is - definitely not what I was expecting. So much conflicting emotion right now. I'm elated to see both Song of the Sea and Tale of Princess Kaguya on the list - clearly the Academy voters are paying more attention to the actual films than the Globes did. But it's flabbergasting and obvi...

Strike that - The Hobbit was worse; much much worse.Dragon would probably fall dead last for me.

Re: 2015 Golden Globes
Yeah, I know. Still, it strikes me as odd. I've seen about 15 films from 2014, none of them bad, but Dragon would probably fall dead last for me. I tend to enjoy heavily dramatic films myself, and it frustrates me that they're so scarce in today's animation scene, but Dragon's tone felt all over the...

Re: 2015 Golden Globes
Well, I've certainly got my fingers crossed that this year will make three. A win for Big Hero 6 would have at least made sense to me, since it's the most recent, and since Disney is in the middle of a pretty big comeback. But I'm struggling to see how the "politics" wound up favoring Dragon . Do yo...

Re: 2015 Golden Globes
When you say since 2006, do you mean "not counting 2006"? Because the Globes gave the award to Cars that year.
