I have noticed that the Cartoon Brew crowd that seem to turn their noses at the new film, because of it being motion-capture. I remember hearing a radio interview with Jerry Beck a number of months ago where he was talking about upcoming animated films and he was very dismissive of Tintin, because o...

I didn't like the first Madagascar, but it took until the third film for me to get tired of Ice Age (Scrat is still hilarious, though). And while Cars 2 may have out-grossed Kung Fu Panda 2 domestically, the bear was more successful worldwide than the auto-mobiles were. Even the Smurfs did better th...

Re: Tintin

Looking at Tintin's North American box-office, it honestly perplexes me. Why is it that European comics are successful elsewhere in the world, but have never really captured a big audience in English-language Canada and the United States? I'm not just talking about Tintin, but ones like Asterix and ...

Yeah, I loved Tintin. Absolutely fantastic in almost every department. Spielberg nailed the comic books perfectly. This truly is Tintin brought to the big screen and I had a big smile on my face the whole time, because of it. However, I think it will work well for those who have never read the books...

With the excellent reviews that Mission: Impossible IV has gotten, I hope that boosts peoples' confidence in John Carter. After all, a lot of critics are saying that Brad Bird's direction is the main reason it works so well. So, in a way, that's good buzz that Stanton can make the live-action jump s...

Pooh was nominated for directing and writing, which makes its lack of an animated feature nomination even more odd. They definitely really liked it, so why didn't it get nominated in the big category?

Probably the most curious omission is Spielberg in directing.

I think Rango, Tintin, Winnie the Pooh and Arthur Christmas have four of the slots sown up. The last spot will either go to Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots, Rio or something smaller. I don't understand that people are saying that it's a weak year for animation when we have seven or more strong conten...

Re: Arthur Christmas

I also really enjoyed Arthur Christmas. It was fun and zippy and with that great British wit I expect from Aardman.

And I spotted the Shaun the Sheep cameo, but I didn't catch the other Aardman nod.

It doesn't specifically state that it will be live-action. Could be a fully computer-animated film, for all we know, which I would prefer over a hybrid. And, of course, there have been other big-budget anime attempts in recent years: Dragon Evolution (which was terrible) The Last Airbender (I have f...

So, last night, I got to attend a preview screening of Happy Feet Two (which was also attended by George Miller) and I quite liked it. I quite liked it, might even be a little better than the first one. Something that the trailers don't reveal, oddly enough, is the plot. Most of the flick is set in ...

I didn't care for it. Puss in Boots is my favourite character from the Shrek franchise, so I was looking forward to this. I thought it started off very well with the spaghetti western influence and I liked the interaction between Puss and Softpaws (excellent character animation on her, especially). ...

It should also be noted that Steve Jobs was losing money on Pixar for years. Most any other CEO would have shut down them down immediately due to lack of profitability. However, Jobs kept supporting this little computer software company, because maybe, just maybe their dream of making computer-anima...

European tv spot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAAiXQB4U10 I just don't understand the Uncanny Valley accusations at all. And I've tried looking at the characters in every way, but I'm not getting that "creepy" feeling a select others have gotten. Unlike, say, Mars Needs Moms, which weirded me out...
