Actually, I think the Universal-DreamWorks partnership is from the early days of the studio's existence, up until Over the Hedge (my DVD copy of The Producers opens with a trailer for that one).

Kind of different demographics, though. Fast Five came out two weeks after Rio and the bird flick still held up (and both of them were set in the same city, no less!).

Re: Despicable Me (Universal)

Well, we're still two years away from those releases. It wouldn't surprise if the studios separate the releases a tad. We're long past the days of Beauty and the Beast competing right against Fievel Goes West. I expect DreamWorks will put Turbo in their usual May slot, while Leaf Men could fit in la...

New trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLUis9pzrT8 I think we can safely say that there's not a single hint of the Uncanny Valley to be found here. WETA really has done a terrific job in making the characters look like Herge's creations and (as I've said countless times before), Spielberg is th...

I think the fart shoes are meant to be intentionally lame, hence Adams' reaction in the trailer. Of course, this being a trailer, she could be reacting to something else for all we know. Not to mention, (and correct me if I'm wrong) isn't it a running joke with Fonzie that his props are on the lame ...

You know, I was originally going to reply to your comment that Jan Pinkava did get a co-director credit, but looking at the film ending, I only saw him get a story credit. Yet, IMDb does say that he co-directed the film. Odd. In regards to replacing Witherspoon with Macdonald, it's possible they wan...

Don't like the other M:I films, but this is one of the most anticipated films of the year. Do I even need to explain why? ;-)

Re:

They captured a lot of Mel Gibson's John Smith in his trailer on the shoot for The Patriot Don't you mean Rocky the Rooster? That must have been one long shooting schedule. I think the re-casting of Witherspoon was more because Pixar wanted an authentic Scot to play the part, but they said "...

The thing is Eric's not wrong in his assumptions regarding Toy Story 4. Unless Hanks is a producer on the project (which he most certainly isn't), I take it with a grain of salt until Pixar actually does announce it. It's like how Keanu Reeves has been saying for years there will be another Bill & T...

I honestly have no idea why that ridiculous Toy Story 4 story is on the front page. If there was, Pixar would be the first to announce it. They're incredibly secretive about their projects and if they told Hanks he was making one, they would make him sign a non-disclosure agreement. But, I very much...

That last paragraph made absolutely no sense to me. :-? I'm a huge Pixar fanboy and the last thing I wanted was to see them make a critically-derided feature. However, despite liking Cars 2, I understand why the critics don't like it, since it lacks Pixar's trademark emotion and strong character dev...

Well, they showed the trailer before Cars 2 and it got a good reaction from the audience, so there's definitely some sort of interest in the air. How much of that will transform into box-office dollars, I have no idea.

I just got back from seeing Cars 2 and you know what? I liked it. It's my least favourite Pixar film, but only because there isn't quite the emotion and character development we usually expect from them and the message is pretty much hammered in. But I thought the secret agent storyline was well-don...

Re:

From what I've read, the 3D prints will include the Lion King opening, the Brave teaser and the Toy Story short. I expect the 2D prints will eliminate the Lion King opening and maybe put the Muppets trailer in its place.

I guess we can throw the "critics are biased towards Pixar" card out of the window. For the first time in history, one of their features is at a Rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And I don't see it getting up to fresh at this point. I honestly never thought this day would open, but I guess it looks ...
