Re: Indiana Jones And The New Disney Movies Thread

Temple of Doom involved the villain ripping out someone's heart. Everyone complained about how it shouldn't have gotten a PG rating and how it portrays Indians as savages who eat monkey brains. And about how nails-on-chalkboard annoying Kate Capshaw was compared to Karen Allen, and then made inappr...

Re: Indiana Jones And The New Disney Movies Thread

Of the many reasons given for the film's underperformance, congratulations:
I'm pretty sure you are the FIRST person on planet Earth to offer that rationalization. :?

(The safer theories went with "Old", "Depressing", and "No Spielberg".)

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe

One person familiar with the script permutations says the story at one point morphed into a narrative led by women and filled with life lessons. Blade was relegated to the fourth lead, a bizarre idea considering that the studio had two-time Oscar winner Ali on board. That definitely SOUNDS like a p...

Re: Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Live-Action)

Fan rumors about whether the project would quietly disappear during strike delays were all over the Internet, and could swear we already had one about Disney officially dropping foot-mouthed Rachel Ziegler, now that they were going back to square one. But no--Because studios, once they invest a lot ...

Re: Looney tunes return to the big screen in new animated film!

Also, even just from the art style, and recognition of Petunia's existence, this has the look of coming from those freakish Max cartoons, with the passive-hostile animator-insider grudge against 30's-40's LT shorts, animation style and tropes.

I thought they cancelled those...

Re: Manga & Anime THREAD

Um, isn't regular Crunchyroll ALREADY available free with ads?
And with an actual slate of titles people have heard of?

(While PlutoTV has 24/7 FWA streaming-broadcast channels of Sailor Moon, Lupin III, Naruto, and Case Closed.)

Vanilla flavored. With marshmallows.
While elsewhere in the store, PUMPKIN SPICE Cheerios and Chex are available?...

And Flintstones was also quite remarkable - I love Mark Russell as a writer (just bought his recent Superman book he did with Allred). I loved his Snagglepuss, too, though that was a really weird take. Although those were digging up all the Millennial-hipster Cartoon Network passive-hostile cliche'...

Re: Disney ends physical media in Australia & Asia!

Another point is that retail never really WAS the main outlet for DVD/Blu buyers: DVD, Blu and Blu3D were all so impossible to find in big-box stores--and insanely MSRP overpriced when they were--that core early-adopters gravitated to Amazon and private company-website sales like Criterion, while on...

Re: Dynomite comics brings thundercats, space ghost, cn 90s and more to comics again!

Darn. I clicked thinking it was about Dynamite Magazine. :( And H-B reportedly didn't like the CN-cliche'd snide-hipster take on Snagglepuss and The Flintstones DC was originally planning, so unless this is another under-the-radar thing, DC may have had to make a few creative concessions to get them...

I don't know what Fox deal got them Criss Angel, but he, alongside David Copperfield, were one of the two made-for-TV frauds that enraged REAL stage magicians to create the Masked Magician series (also for Fox): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rrERsDSQIs ("But he's supposed to be fake, did you thin...

Re: The state and future of animation

GDT had nothing to do with MVA, either. He was at the studio consulting on other projects, which is the accepted explanation for why Link is basically an undisguised Hellboy with gills. So…'Flix isn’t the second coming after all then? ;) After all these guys work out that you can’t basically...

Re: The state and future of animation

In my opinion, the most unbelievably overrated DWA film is, without a doubt, Monsters vs. Aliens. Reese Witherspoon is pretty bad, it never feels like anything is truly at stake, and so many of the jokes fall FLAT. Even Shrek the Third had some good gags. This didn’t. MvA felt like a feel-go...

\Same. The only DreamWorks movie I like is The Prince of Egypt.
Yeah, but that's their pre-Sinbad 2-D days. Doesn't count.

Re: The state and future of animation

Well…Ben’s being just a little harsh on influencers. A LITTLE. I know "influencers", ie. YouTube movie reactors, have pretty much supplanted much of streaming TV for me, but not movies. DreamWorks was basically hit by two problems: 1) The pandemic-era studio fascination with streaming, where the In...
