Well, hey, it was a great book! Essential reading for the 1960s-1980s movie fan.
And I'm going to let that "little buddy" remark slide, youngster, only because you're a foot taller than me.

Re: Will Disney buy DWA?
Quote found in Easy Riders, Raging Bulls, coming from a studio exec that used to work with him, IIRC: "JK is not a creative person." He was described, rather, as someone who wanted to package product. And that's when he was with Paramount, oh so long ago.
So there ya go.

Re: Best superhero actor?
Hemsworth's Thor is amazing. I never thought anyone could pull off Thor, but he really does it, and makes it seem so natural.

Re: Best superhero actor?
I thought Keaton's performance was great, and he gave us a Bruce that surprised me, but I liked it. He just looks so small! Downey created the screen Iron Man, and did it to joyful perfection, but I'm not sure the screen version truly embodies the comics version. Of course, I haven't read much Iron ...

COTW is about my fave Disney song, along with a few of the Hunchback songs.

Re: Best superhero actor?
Keaton surprised, and he did a very good acting job... but he doesn't come close to physically filling out the batsuit. Jackman is just about perfect... except that he's a foot too tall. For me, Chris Reeve remains the perfect actor/hero combo. He looked the part, and conveyed both aspects of 1970s-...

Re: New Scooby Doo movie defines being size 8 as a "curse"
Yeah, this looks to be a case of being too quick to judge. Daphne learning that it's okay to be overweight doesn't sound like a terrible idea to me. Characters learn lessons all the time, often by having to face their own worst aspects--- in this case, vanity. This sounds like a positive lesson, and...

Crazy project. The link you've given has the trailer for the documentary already, but here's the crowdfunding page if anyone wants to suppport it:

Re: Official Star Wars Thread
We're talking about two different things here, each of which pertain to the murky concept of "ownership": distribution rights and copyright. Lucasfilm has the copyright for all the films (as seen on the packaging for the Blu-ray set); but Fox has distribution rights for the films. I think we all agr...

Re: More Miyazaki on US Blu Ray November 14th
Having owned 3 versions of Kiki already (including the LaserDisc, which I still have), I also felt like it had come to Blu already. I'm most excited to finally see Mononoke come to BD. I've held off re-watching it in recent years, expecting the BD to come out at any time. (My daughter, a Ghibli love...

Re: More Disney Blus...Aug 12, 2014
It is amazing just how incompetent Disney Home Video can be. Just astounding.
I got rid of my last DVD already, expecting a simple port of it onto BD; but, this will give me the excuse now to track down the previous DVD, which had the longer version of the restoration featurette on it.

Here's an excellent description of what happened to the original negative, in terms of previous restoration and the creation of the Special Editions: http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.html Properly restoring the original films should be possible (with the proper time and resources, i...

Re: RIP Robin Williams 1951-2014
I don't think I ever watched all of Season 4 when it aired, as it seemed to be getting sillier, but I'd still love to get it on DVD. Having recently watched the first 3 seasons on DVD with my kids, I can attest that it holds up very well--- genuinely funny/hilarious, as well as surprisingly touching...

Re: More Disney Blus...Aug 12, 2014
Sorry, but I need to correct ya, Dace. Tarzan DID port over most of the worthwhile bonus material from the 2-disc versions; however, image galleries were once again dropped, as well as text scereens and DVD-ROM content. But the featurettes are all on the BD. And Reluctant Dragon is the full 74 minut...

Re: Betty Boop: The Movie
I'll stay cautiously optimistic. I'd love to see a cool Betty film, but there seems to be too much Hollywood history stacked against it. Oh, I do hope they can get this (and Popeye) right!
