Pink Panther probably made them cool, but let's not forget Saul Bass' great work for Alfred Hitchcock in the 50s or many of Walt's earlier 1960s pictures (Shaggy Dog and The Parent Trap's stop motion titles) that came before it.

Especially relevent is the very elaborate It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World title sequence from '63 that clearly inspired Edwards to commission some special titles for his almost-equally-as-large comedy crime caper the following year.

But I agree that Pink's titles upstaged the movie...until A Shot In The Dark came along a few months later...that one was pure genius!

I'm watching the end credits for Madagascar right now. I just love King Julian singing that song and all the animals gettin' their groove on. :D

Seconded the Lilo and Stitch, and Unfortunate Events. The Monsters. Inc opening credit is my other favorite
