Twilight Zone Animation

Post by ShyViolet » April 30th, 2006, 10:37 pm

I'm just wondering, does anyone remember that segment in Twilight Zone: The Movie with that little boy who had the magical powers and could control everything? (Joe Dante directed) Remember he had all the TVs in his house showing cartoons? Were those actual classic cartoons from the past? What about when he wished his "sister" (Nancy Cartwright! ) into CartoonLand? Whose animation was that?

I found these cel drawings from the scene you're talking about:

Sorry, but I don't know who did them.

Hmmm, an interesting one!

The cartoons on the TVs in the house were WB shorts (WB made the movie too).

No info on who did the CartoonLand animation, and it's been soooooo long since I've seen this. WB were talking about finally getting it out sometime this year on DVD, so maybe we'll get some insight from Dante on it then.

I know Dream Quest were involved as an FX house on this (before they were snapped up by Disney), but don't think they would have contributed actual animation to it. Could be wrong though.

The images PV linked to were created by animator/designer and director Sally Cruikshank:

Aww, man! I saw her name on the page with the cels, but I wasn't sure if she was the artist or the person who owned the gallery.

Which WB shorts were they? They looked really old.

Well, for that you are asking and will be searching for years...!

I'm speaking from memory here, so no way will I remember which titles they were, and to find out you'd have to step through the sequence frame by frame to make 'em out.

Yes, WB shorts ARE "really old"...!?!?

What gives with the sudden interest in this anyway?
