The Critic (1993).

“Dr. Jay”

https://youtu.be/85RkKbMyVYo

(5:07). Yes, this has actually started happening. Maybe we can’t make a new ending to Casablanca yet (or maybe we can, I’m not even sure) but one thing that has been unearthed during the current Writer’s/Actor’s strike, is that Hollywood studios want the legal right to use AI versions/images of their actors even if they’re not in their employ anymore. Yes, you read that right. It’s actually STARTING. :|

EDIT: “Throwback Toons” which posted the ep, have a couple of adult jokes in the beginning/end of vid.

The Critic, the 90's Family Guy before there WAS a Family Guy.

Yes. Just ask James Dean. :(

That Critic episode was originally poking fun at the Ted Turners wanting to make films "better" by the miracle of colorization. Never mind that color stock existed and often the decision to go with black and white was an *intentional* choice for creative or budgetary concerns! Now that episode is scarily prescient again for those of us fearing the "bunch of computers"…

Or that Gremlins 2 already did the same gag, for the same Ted Turner reasons.

A pre-October sample of some of the perfect synergy that happens when Universal Studios Hollywood jams multiple different IP character meets into one area:

Haven’t seen that in ages! A cutdown version used to play almost every advert break in major network premieres back in the day. :)

I posted this “Star Trek vs. Star Wars” CollegeHumor vid some years back…the funny thing is that Star Wars was right on the cusp of the Sequel Trilogy and Picard wouldn’t premiere for another five or six years. I thought it might be interesting to re-watch the vid in lieu of all the changes that would occur later on. Taking in consideration Picard and the ST, which is truly the “lamer” property? Lol. :)

EDIT: Not saying Picard or TST are necessarily “lame”, just that it would be interesting to take them into consideration when watching this vid. :)

All so true!

As a fan of both, Trek has always been rooted more in science-fiction, whereas as Wars is, and was intended as, a fantasy, albeit a science-fantasy.

They both have Star in their title, and obviously share elements, but they’re two different things. Trek is definitely nerdier, or at least appeals mainly to a select group of fans, whereas Wars, being less focused, captures wider audiences, hence the differing levels of success between the two franchises.

I do love 'em both, though. That video is still very funny and well done.

Even Disney+ is jumping on the "Modern trailer" trend for overlooked Ron Miller-era titles:
