Violet, Brad Bird explicitely said he was NOT abandonning animation. Besides, Stanton and Bird are not the only talents at PIXAR...

Well, of course he said it Kinoo, he doesn't want to lose touch with his huge fanbase who of course are going to think he's abandoning animation. (even if they don't all express it.)

I'm not saying I really think he IS abandoning animation, but it seems like he's putting it on the backburner for now at least. I guess we'll see what happens.

I mean the guy paid lip service to "I'm not abandoning 2d, I love 2d, everyone at Pixar loves 2d...." etc....when he moved over to Pixar.
And yet, has he made one single 2d film since Iron Giant?

Which, BTW, came out eight years ago.

He's "talked" about it of course, Rex Havoc which we are all anxiously waiting for, but as of right now 2d and Brad Bird are no longer one.

I don't think he'll give up animation, (at least not CGI anyway) I'm sure he'll stay in the business, but it really seems like he's putting it on the backburner, at least for now.

The whole thing is, Pixar is there to make Disney a giant in animation again--with their own films, and helping with Disney's films. They work for Disney. Not the other way around.

No but they're a huge chunk of the talent that Disney shelled out so much money for with the merger. They're part of that sacred brain trust that Iger was so anxious to get. If they back out of animation, even temporarily (and in Hollywood, "temporarily" can mean anything) they're backing out of that deal.

8 years in animation is the time needed to make two movies. Oh and wait, Incredibles and Ratatouille = 2!...
Now that Lasseter brought 2D back to Disney, what would be the point for Pixar to make 2D. Be logic. BTW it's Ray Gunn, I don't know any Rex Havoc project.

It's not my perspective, it's Iger's, and Cook's, who authorized the merger. They wanted Disney to be on top again so they decided to buy Pixar. Pixar is there for Disney.

If Pixar doesn't want that, they shouldn't have agreed to the deal.

I don't know if making any kind of movie they want to and using Disney resources/money to doing live-action Pixar was ever discussed in the negotiations, but I think--at least if you're advocating for Disney--that it probably should have been.

BTW it's Ray Gunn, I don't know any Rex Havoc project.

Ah, can't believe I did that!! I meant Ray Gunn.

Rex Havoc is the DW one that's coming out. OK....let's just not go there.

Yep...Rex Havoc is the DWs rip-o...oops, I'm sorry, I mean "coincidental" project that sounds a lot like Bird/Pixar's Ray Gunn.

Yeah, I think they did, Meg.

Maybe that's partly why I mixed it up with Ray Gunn.

I still like Rex Havoc and the Atomic 8 better though.....

(I mean as a title compared to "Monsters vs. Aliens"

Yeah, "Monsters vs Aliens" is pretty lame as far as titles go. Why can't they just call it "Rex Havoc"? It's shorter than the original title and sounds way better than the one they have now.

Maybe they're worried it's too subtle and no one will understand exactly what it is. Whatever you want to say about DW....they're NOT subtle.
