AristoCats

Post by Kirby-chan » May 29th, 2007, 6:39 pm

Since the classic 1970 Disney movie "The Aristocats" is comming to Platinum DVD this summer, I heard on WIkipedia that Disney Studios were planning an Aristocats 2, but it was temporarily shelved, does anybody know anything about this?

Correction, The Aristocats is coming out on a "Special Edition", next year. ;) It was going to be released this year, but Disney decided to push it back, so they can go in and add more material. Eh, with a new digital transfer, I really don't mind the wait.

As for your question, The Aristocats 2 was in production, but its now permanently shelved, along with all Disney sequels. Their still going to make franchises, which are sequels in a way, so its no real difference.

Edit: here's the cover art for The Aristocats.

Widescreen 1.75:1

The magic info we needed. Who's betting that the second disc WOULD have included the original 1.37:1 negative formatting?

Once again, we're being stiffed on ratios by the h-def happy Mouse. ;)

Yep, it's not shiny, like say The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh or The Little Mermaid. That's what I like about it anyhow. ;)

Y'see, the reason we were getting Aristocats 2 in the first place--AND the Special Edition--was, "Bambi II" had given Toon Studios the idea for a new use for their DTV sequel division (now that they didn't have to extend old copyrights anymore):
Namely, sequelize old forgotten non-seller back-titles like Dumbo and Fox & the Hound, which direct-videos parents would snap up at Target at the sound of Pavlov's bell--
Which would, of course, hook immediate character identification for Todd, Copper, Thumper, Flower, O'Malley and the Crows with kids who had never and were never likely to hear about them for most of their entire lives...Just in time for a neato 2-disk "Special Edition" reissue of the original to hit shelves a few weeks later, with "exclusive" preview scenes of each other's cross-marketed disk attached. That was the plan, anyway.

Just that, well, once the idea of re-jumpstarting Aristocats occurred to them, then those old overseas-marketing grudges about "Why do Tokyo & Paris go so goofy over Marie, and we still can't give the original movie away for free over here?? " kicked in.
Which now made the issue a declaration of of-course-you-realize-this-means-war for them, at whatever cost. :P

Well, yeah, that too--
It's like soccer, years go by and they still can't figure out why Americans aren't buying it... :P
