ParaNorman

Post by laughingoctopus » December 9th, 2011, 1:11 am

Coming August 15th (I think?) is the new stop-motion comedy/horror movie Paranorman, from Laika (creators of Coraline).

I tried to post a link to the trailer, but it said my account didn't have permission to do so. :?

Not yet, Octo, you have to make a few posts and prove you're not a spamming bot or anything like that before you can post links.

Welcome to the board! :)

Meanwhile, here's the ParaNorman teaser trailer .. which, I'll agree, looks pretty amazing. :)

It's nice to see another animation form besides CGI in theaters. I guess that shows that CGI hasn't completely taken over.

Well, besides ParaNorman, we have Aardman's The Pirates (Band of Misfits/in an Adventure with Scientists!) stop-motion feature, and a stop-motion feature treatment of Tim Burton's Frankenweenie coming next year.

.. and there's a Henson/Pathé stop-motion Pinocchio currently in production.

.. plus, I'm pretty sure Henry Selick is developing a stop-motion project for Pixar, right now (I'm not convinced they'd have hired him to direct a CG feature).

Wow! Quite a lot of stop-motion in 2012. I'm pleased. :)

And people will think Tim Burton directed every other bit of it, too.

(Although, if fans think that Henry Selick did Paranorman, it would at least be a helpful step forward...)

Sadly enough, I didn't even know that Henry Selick directed Nightmare until recently. Henry and Tim have very similar styles, so the mistake is easily made. I agree that if people think Henry did this, they may realize that not all dark animated films are made by Tim Burton!

I hope Laika can make the 3d for this great. Coraline and Avatar revolutionized 3D, I hope ParaNorman can deliver stunning 3D again.

Nice! Getting a Monster House vibe off that, which can't be a bad thing.

Saw the more recent trailer, which was sadly full of fart jokes and obnoxious voice acting. I truly believe their mistake was making this a comedy. Coraline was a horror/thriller with a few jokes, which I think would benefit Paranorman.
