80s fad?
The real fad was the Cabbage Patch Kids, which the Garbage Pail Kids was a pastiche of (and a lame one at that, I don't know how they didn't get sued!).
This is just awful news but given this day and age, and the reliance on cruel, pot-shot "comedy", I'm guessing it will make a tidy sum. But I hope it fails to death and is remembered just like the Animatronic live-action movie they made (as in: not at all).
At least the clue's in the title: "garbage".
