I don't know if its just me, but when I click your link, it takes me to the front page of the LA Times instead of the actual article. Tried searching too, and nothing...?
I've known about this for a long time though, been really looking forward to it! Nick gave a preview around Thanksgiving -- unfortunately, they showed clips from the "A Christmas Caper" short. So hopefully it'll look close to "Caper", or that was false advertisement! However, if Barnyard is any indication, there's hope.
I know for a fact that it will not premiere in 2009, but rather next year '08. And the going title is "Operation Penguins", which seems to fit it to a T!

The show has DISASTER written all over it. DreamWorks is going make us get sick to death of those penguins (which is sad, since they were such great characters. ).
Also, we now know that no matter what happens in the sequel that the penguins and Julian will still be stuck in Madagascar by the end of the film.

Considering it has the creators of Kim Possible and providing they do their research, I have a lot of hope. Those two guys have a great track record when it comes to cartoons, albeit Disney.
I don't think DW is going to make us sick of the penguins, though. Sure, they'll get a lot of publicity and they'll probably get tons of merchandise (I'm kinda hoping for that! ) but I think with a TV show, their where they finally belong; so they can branch out and stop playing up the same ol' shtick, like A Christmas Caper depicted.

Just a heads up that Nickelodeon is giving a sneak peak "episode" this Friday at 8:45 PM, with encores the following days. If that's any consolation, the show will consist of two 11 minute shorts on a regular basis. I just hope they get them right. And well, I already wrote above what I'm hoping for. Fingers crossed.

Each show is two 11 minute shorts? I think that'll work then. You can't really do anything more with them than that, but certainly can do a lot with them in that format.
Still can't work out why the Christmas Caper wasn't included in the Shrek The Halls DVD...they could have gone with a "DreamWorks Christmas" theme, sine the Penguins made up so much of the bonus content anyway.
My guess? Look for the Christmas Caper to be one half of a festive episode in about a month's time...

Ooooooooh, thanks for the heads-up, Daniel! :]
I actually think that the Penguins can sustain a feature-length film, but I'd like to see something done in the vein of 'The Naked Gun' or 'Airplane'. Comedies these days are too concerned with having 'heart' and inevitably have several down moments (take the latest Madagascar, for example). It's great when it works, but often, it just comes off as too contrived or neither here nor there.
I for one certainly miss 'pure' comedies like Hot Shots Part Deux, and firmly believe that the penguins are just the kind of characters to pull something like that off.

Having seen the sneak peek of the show on Nickolodeon last night, I have to ask...
WHY are they back at the zoo? Why is Julian at the zoo? Why are Mort and Maurice at the zoo? It doesn't make any sense.

I was wondering that too. I haven't seen the sequel, so I just assumed that's where it went off .. guess not. Yeah, that makes no sense whatsoever. Maybe a future episode - hopefully the true first episode - will solve this. Doubt it.
I liked the preview, though, as expected, the animation was a step below what we're used to. False advertising, much? They really shouldn't have showed clips of Christmas Caper last year... They're just not as cute, their eyes and fur, bleh.
I'll still watch it, since it is entertaining. And well, I love them!

We <I>told</I> you guys...they don't get back to the zoo until <I>Madagascar: All St13m Ahead</I>!
The series actually seems unrelated to the features...this is just what it says: "The Penguins From <I>Madagascar</I>". Like the Christmas Caper (where no-one asked how they were back at the zoo!), this is obviously set before the films and basically follows the Penguins on their shady adventures, though I wouldn't be surprised to simply see them turn up wherever a short requires them (the zoo, on the streets of NYC, the wild, etc).
BTW, anyone else not think "<I>The Madagascar Penguins</I>" has more of a ring to it?
