Bill1978 wrote:As the author of that article states, TKJ is ineligible for the BAF because it isn't having a week long release. It has nothing to do with Disney's apparent monopoly on the award, it is all to do with Warner's release schedule. Obviously Warner isn't interested in getting this film eligible for the Oscars otherwise they would have booked a week long screening in LA.
And even then, Batman's only getting the Fathom theatrical release for the exact same reason "Barbie's Starlight Adventure" is:
If Warner's so convinced that "Disk is dead", they're going to have to deal with that notion shooting their entire DC Direct-Video Animation industry in the foot. We're going to have to see it somewhere if they want us to buy it on Flixster--or at Target--and they obviously don't want it to be Netflix...

This is a direct-to-video movie. It is only getting an event showing as a marketing concept as a way to mark the release date. Whatever the merits of the film or not, it has no place even being considered in the BAF category.

No chance of that happening anyway since the film was panned all around: criticized as lurid, sexist, overdone, adding nothing nothing to the original comic, etc...Mark Hammil is apparently the only real reason to see this film.
There's also a half an hour intro of storyline that is tacked on to the actual KJ story that many critics felt showed no respect the character of Barbara and heightened some of the story's innate dependence on the theme of a !!!!MINOR SPOILER!!!!!

brutalized woman being the driving catalyst for the conflict between two men. Anyway, I think it's interesting that not many brought up BB: Return of the Joker, since, according to critics anyway, it would be so obviously this film's opposite: the adult storyline and very unsettling conflicts all add to the film rather than taking away from it: showing the brutality has an almost redemptive effect rather than the dully grim one TKJ's violence does. Instead of being the catalyst for reflection, this film is just creepy. Or at least according to the critics.

Still want to see it...hopefully will come to Netflix eventually. :)

Update: on iTunes in HD, along with extras. Movie soundtrack as well.

Think this was meant for our live-action thread?

They do those for DTVs now? Seems a bit excessive.

Technically it was in theaters (special screenings) for a little while plus there was so much fanfare around it, so that's probably why it was included.

Also, because they kiss up to whatever their geeky fanbase tells them to do, which could include game trailers.
(And the recent spate of good Disney/Pixar movies that didn't even NEED Honest Trailers, just because they were on everyone's mind at the moment, and the culty-fans wanted to see anything in the news satirized...Yeah, I'm still sore they didn't get to Tomorrowland.)

I love their one for the new Jungle Book...they can hardly find a bad word to say!

(Unlike the one for this: Joker was right when it said it wasn't supposed to be boring!)

Kind of related to TKJ: Alan Moore permanently retiring from writing comics:

Alan Moore hates everything, though.

I love Watchmen and respect his accomplishments, but the man just comes across as a bitter grouch with no respect for anyone but himself, preaching about how people "steal" his work while writing porn comics about Peter Pan and Wendy. And his manner of "complaining" is just crass and unfunny.

Alan Moore hates everything.

I would have loved it if Hollywood had adapted his "Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow?" Superman story. That would made an amazing film. :)

And the gay bashing is getting really tired, Eric.

I deleted Eric's last post, Vi. It was just foolish.
