As long as the songs are good, I probably won't care if the story disappoints.

And there is an Amy poster. Just double checked the Disney Instagram page to confirm I wasn't making things up.

Nancy got the worse of it! Her skin tone looks a little darker. Edward's chin is different too.

Oh, so Twitter is still a Thing, then? ;)

Seeing the new animation is disappointing and slightly depressing, actually. It looks like it’s done on twos, so not as fluid as "proper and real" Disney animation. It has the look — in the designs and movement — of the 1990s Disney knock-offs, like Thumbelina, Swan Princess, or even Anastasia, which is the closest another studio got but still didn’t *quite* match authentic Disney.

So that’s the disappointing part. The depressing part is that this kind of thing has to be farmed out and can’t even be done as a special project inside the studio itself anymore. I mean, Feature Animation used to provide live Disney films (and television) with any amount of animation throughout its hundred-year history. Ironically in its anniversary year, they can’t even do that now, which is just sad in itself.

That all said, at least the rest of Disenchanted looks like it’s been done with a real budget, and could be the best of the so-called "Originals", because it doesn’t look like a television product. Still slightly mind-numbing why this isn’t coming out on the big screen.

Out of curiosity is it getting an Oscar qualifying run in an LA cinema so the songs at least have a shot at an Oscar nom?

IIRC, that was the case with the first movie's animation (the one that got all the Disney fans prematurely praising the movie on high for "bringing back" 2-D animation pre-Tiana), since Eisner had already closed the traditional Animation divisions.

Think we'd know that by now, since it's common knowledge, and the movie's reputation has cooled a bit in the real world, but Disney troubles always has fans hoping for a miracle. :(

The difference being, of course, that the first film's animation had James Baxter and other veterans of the 90s films involved in it, not to mention being directed by a true Disney animation hand in Kevin Lima, so it did indeed feel authentic, and even if it not been directly created by WDFA, it was at least created by WDFA staff.

This time, it’s truly outsourced to an independent company, and it looks it, and as close as it tries to ape the style of the first, it’s like a copy of a copy… :(
