Re: Live action Tom and Jerry Movie

Arrogant people in a rush to get to the end of their own lives: "I want to watch new movies at home!" (Er, wouldn't arrogant people in a rush to end their lives be the ones seeing it in a theater? Presumably California or Florida?) Sensible People with patience and a respect for filmmaking craft: "...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

=It’s just a shame that when the new season of Mando came along, the excitement was all on Disney's side, not the fans, who were all overjoyed when those final Clone Wars episodes came to home video, and then went ape when further new episodes were announced for D+. And on the D+ Clone Wars: The ma...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

Well, the thing we started forgetting in the 00's was, on TV, either you're a "serial", or you're NOT. Twin Peaks was a serial, because it thought it was parodying soap-operas, but the lines kept blurring after that. We don't have "the Chuckles the Clown episode", "the Turkeys episode" or "the Walnu...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

With the last couple of episodes setting the show up to be a true sequel to Rebels, I think it's found the niche it was looking for, for better or worse. Those that didn't watch all the cartoons may find less to hook on to. Fans are starting to say that Dave Filoni's for-fans-by-fans Clone Wars/Reb...

Yep, I'm seeing a dark red(dish) Scholastic name-only promotional tie-in deal for Paramount's struggling animation/FX division, too.

Now, us smug disc fans wait to see whether Rudolph and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" will end up as the latest hostages in the Streaming Wars... Today marks the first day of the free period dealy on Apple TV. Looks like you do need an Apple ID to watch if you don't already have one. Only...

Re: Despicable Me 3

DreamWorks also has a history of just dumping spare bonus content from discs and other media and calling it a "special"-- One of their "Spooky Stories" on their Netflix Halloween specials is no less than the movie from the Universal Studios theme-park attraction, while one of the collection of "addi...

I think that's supposed to be the 60's Rob & Laura Petrie kitchen, except that, for some reason, "Laura" isn't wearing Capri pants.

Re: Pocahontas

Do you think Pocahontas will ever get a remake? Since they're now using the LA's as brand-revivals for movies during the '95-'05 "Troubles" that were ignored as an unmentionable time after Eisner left, I'm guessing the Hercules, Lilo, Mulan and rumored Atlantis remakes will be joined by a Pocahonta...

Re: Live action Tom and Jerry Movie

Except that...that wasn’t the joke at all. “Poochie” was a reference to overly hip characters (created by “marketing research committees”) who get added to TV shows in order to spice things up, something that the episode was extremely blatant about. Sort of...like Puggsy was. And who got over the p...

Re: Live action Tom and Jerry Movie

At the end of the day, T&J: The Movie had barely any impact on pop culture. Making Poochie be a "reference" to him (which of course he isn't!) wouldn't have made any sense when the majority of the audience would have no idea who "Pugsie" was. The point was that it was an in-joke between animation s...

Re: Live action Tom and Jerry Movie

And whose animator connections to The Simpsons resulted in many in-jokes in the series: From Homer becoming hip dog Poochie on the Itchy & Scratchy Show (think we know where that came from...) , to the entire town of Springfield going wild over The Itchy & Scratchy Movie, the most fantastic movie ev...
