Re: Hamilton

I heard one fan on Twitter say that his fangirl friend had to do a historical project for college, chose Aaron Burr for obvious reasons, and discovered, quote, "...He was WHITE??" Er, yeah--Would she be surprised to learn that Lafayette was, too? Random question and I hope it doesn't spark a heated...

Re: Hamilton

Thanks for all the feedback on if Hamilton is worth watching if I didn't enjoy the recording as a whole. Sounds like I might as well skip it, especially since there is no longer a free trial period on Disney+. Often I can overlook average songs if the choreography is impressive etc. And as a non-Ame...

Re: Hamilton

I am almost tempted to sign up for the free month trial to check out Hamilton. Mainly because after listening to the cast recording last year or 2 years ago I was left very underwhelmed by the musical score and can't understand the love it has. Just wondering if the visuals will help me understand w...

Re: Soul

Honestly, I've forgotten that movies opened every week in a cinema. It's so long since I've seen an ad telling me something opens 'This Week' that I've forgotten movies existed. Cannot wait for cinemas to return BUT I am not eager for the advertising campaign where a movie is advertised in evey ad b...

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+

is one of the LEAST suspenseful twists since we thought Chancellor Palpatine "sort of sounded like" the Emperor?) That was supposed to be a twist? I thought we were meant to understand that the Chancellor would eventually become the Emperor and that we would see that happen during the trilogy. I me...

Re: New Disney Streaming Service: Disney+

I have never managed to finish Fantastic Mr Fox. But as I typed this it is one of the few Dahl books I never read as a kid. So maybe the story of Mr Fox never appealed to me.

Seriously, when and why did he get so soured on all of a sudden!?
Pretty sure it stems from a group of people who saw Age of Ultron and got offended that Joss implied (via their interpretation of the scene) that a woman who can't have children is evil.

Re: Moana

To each his own I guess. I liked Shiny better than Love is an Open Door , Mother Knows Best , Friends on the Other Side and, especially, Mine, Mine, Mine . I will never accept Love Is An Open Door as a villain song, it will always be a love song for me. The main reason why I am not a fan of Shiny i...

But we did get a musical number in Moana.
My key word was 'brilliant'. The less I say about 'Shiny' the better. Let's just say it's one of the few Disney songs I am more than happy to skip.

Re: Moana

All I know is that when you have a strong central villain you often get a brilliant musical number from the character.

Re: Hamilton

I admit I have only listened to the cast recording, but I really don't understand the praise for this musical. I had no idea what was happening within the story, I didn't find any of the tunes memorable. And if I'm being honest, I found Miranda's songs for Moana fairly pedestrian as well. Maybe I'm ...

Re: Disney's Hercules (Live-Action)

From the point of view of someone who studied Greek Theatre in depth (i.e. one term in Year 11 Drama), it wouldn't bother me if they removed all the non-Muses songs but I feel keeping the Muses songs would help keep the Greek Theatre concept of the Chorus give the movie some framing/narrative device...

Re: Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Spent my first day in six weeks onsite today. Just me and 10 kids in room. Them completing online learning, me supervising them and telling them every 30 minutes the new subject they should be moving on to. Not a single one of them was a student I taught before the pandemic shifted kids to online le...
