If kids today are getting their biology lessons from goofy animated films, thinking there are "male" cows out there is likely to be the least of their problems in later life .. No worries, Ben .. I knew when I was working on the film 2 years ago that the "male" cow issue would be cause for deb...

No, there's no reason given in the film for the "male" cows. And yes, there is a one-shot gag of a bull riding a mechanical man. Having worked on the film, I'm not really sure I'm at liberty to discuss the "reasoning" behind the "male" cows -- except to say that that's the way writer/director/produc...

I visited the walk-through exhibit at the Disney/M-G-M Studios park last Christmas .. the windows which used to look out upon the animation floor are now simply covered-over with brown paper. :( Quite a change from my last visit, when they were in full production on POCAHONTAS. Fun fact: at that tim...

James Newton Howard's scores for DINOSAUR, ATLANTIS, and TREASURE PLANET rank high among my favorites from recent years .. his score for the recent live-action PETER PAN was also quite good.

Didn't Droosan do some modeling on this? Yes. :) I worked mostly on the hens, the two roosters (Peck and Root), one female and one "male" cow (Bessie and Ben), as well as other background (non-speaking) critters such as goats, cats, and owls. All over a period of about 9 months. It was a fun projec...

My best Star Wars score is 655,018 .. I must've blown up that Death Star 7 or 8 times! Those vector-laser balls will get ya in the end, though .. :P ------- Seriously, though, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK has the best themes .. (IMHO) Besides the aforementioned "Han & Leia", "Yoda", and "Imperial M...

I have to agree with Sullivan -- SUPERMAN RETURNS feels like watching a 'fan-film,' what with the constant 'line-dropping' and 'homages' to Donner's films. :? All the major 'beats' of SR are equivalent to scenes from SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE. And yes, Kitty is a carbon-copy of Miss Tessmacher -- right do...

Goldblum had already been in great pictures like THE FLY, SILVERADO, and BUCKAROO BANZAI well before JURASSIC PARK. He already was a pretty well-known movie star .. though JP and INDEPENDENCE DAY gave him huge roles that turned out very well for him, no doubt. I never saw LOST WORLD, or JP3. The las...

I saw a scene from CHICKEN LITTLE on Blu-Ray (part of a 'demo disc' of upcoming titles) in a TV showroom over the weekend .. Holy cow, there were details I don't remember seeing at the theater ! .. I could see individual strands of fur on the fuzzy critters .. tiny surface scratches on Chick...

That's a shame to hear, since the 'look' of ASTERIX AND THE VIKINGS bears closer resemblance to Uderzo's lush drawing style than any of the previous ASTERIX films. Hopefully, it is at least better than the 'live-action' ASTERIX film from a few years ago .. The trailers for ASTERIX AND THE VIKINGS do...

There is some information on the english version of ASTERIX AND THE VIKINGS at Asterix New Zealand .. though, unfortunately, nothing regarding a theatrical release schedule. I'd love to be able to see this film in North American theaters .. but I suspect I will have to buy the region-2 DVD next year...

Not related to the films directly .. but I did do a 'double-take' when I saw this sign in a Toys'R'Us a few years ago:

Popeye the Sailor Man

:D :D :D Jerry Beck at Cartoon Brew has announced that Warner Bros. Home Video will be releasing all 231 POPEYE theatrical shorts (from both the Fleischer and Famous Studios) on DVD, starting next year! In addition, the various television cartoon series featuring Popeye will see a DVD release, as we...

Great!! I love, love, love the Hanna-Barbera boxed sets! :) THE FLINTSTONES season 6 set is still a "go," AFAIK .. which will see the entire first series on DVD! Maybe I'm alone in this, but I wouldn't mind seeing a couple sets of THE PEBBLES AND BAMM-BAMM SHOW as a 'follow-up' .. I do hope QUICKDRA...

Loved the aliens while I was watching, though some story points didn't make sense (they were crossing off planets they had been looking for their kid on when he was on the spaceship the whole time??) The aliens weren't searching for their kid when they first landed; they were searching for acorns ....
