Re: Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Live-Action)

And I remember the 1997 "Snow White: a Tale of Terror" (still the best LA Snow White of them all) trying to play the "realistic" angle by rewriting the Dwarves into seven outcast fugitives, working together to build new lives mining in the mountains--Which actually worked , since it emphasized the ...

Re: Disney's The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

I know Daughters of Tritons isn't an amazing song and can be viewed as a throwaway song, but it does set up so much about the world we are entering without having to explain things. It tells as Sebastian is the court's musician so when he breaks into song for Under The Sea and Kiss The Girl it actu...

Re: Manga & Anime THREAD

I've got into One Piece since Toonami started airing it again, I'd like to see it in full eventually. I didn't think that crossover episode was anything special though? Silly, I know, but I only learned the other day that the Demon Slayer manga is finished. I guess I'm so used to anime going as long...

Those posters are really cute. I think that would have been a much better title, too. I wish they'd kept that.

Re: Aladdin

I would have been skeptical about how good a sequel would've been, but I enjoyed Mena, Naomi, and the actor who played Jasmine's friend / servant. I was sort of looking forward to this, more than the TLK prequel or whatever. :/

Re: Demon Slayer The Movie Hit At Overseas Box Office!

Yeah, I'm really sad about it no longer being on Toonami. :( I had bought the Mugen Train movie earlier this year when there was a deal so I could keep up with the plot when the next season started airing, but now the show is officially off the radar for me. It'll be a very long time until I see the...

Re: Disney's The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

Uh, we DO remember Rob Marshall did the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie? (Which seemed to be the biggest criteria in hiring him to direct more musical mermaids.) He's not particularly discerning when working for company hire. I agree, POTC4 was dull as dishwater. It was saved from bein...

Re: Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast

I'd watch even if it was awful, DVR means I can skip quickly through and it's just one night. That said, Shania singing the theme song is just... Whew. I like Shania, too, but that's not the role for her, and that's not even getting into the fact that her voice these days is a pale imitation of what...

Re: Disney's Frozen

You can always tell a self-inserting female fan, who's never read Andersen: "Why doesn't Anna get magic powers TOO?" I'm neither female nor self-inserting. I've always thought it would be an interesting idea that Anna had powers that were dormant. I think Frozen is one of the only films where...

Re: Disney's Frozen

I'd rank the franchise as: 1. Frozen ~ Still the best original film of the Revival, imo. Although I love TP&TF and Raya , too, and enjoy Encanto and Zootopia a great deal. 2. Frozen II ~ Weaker than the first, but I still enjoyed it. I don't think franchises naturally suit fairytales, so it was much...

Re: Strange World

Okay, I'm sorry that Progressive Representation was stamped on by millions of mainstream moviegoers... I'll try to get them all to apologize for not seeing it for their own good, and then get Disney to say they're sorry for canceling Owl House. I thought they just passed on a movie that look...

"Disney charmer has the makings of a new classic"…! https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-reviews/strange-world-jake-gyllenhaal-gabrielle-union-disney-1235265887 Was not expecting that! Good news. :) I should be seeing it tomorrow, can't wait to discover for myself. I wouldn't be surprised...

Re: Strange World

And I donut think there’s any upside to Disney films going more and more to D+. If we *are* going to get more hand-drawn films then it makes the chances of any of them making it to cinemas even more remote. :( If they ever did come back, it would only be because Disney+ offers an alternative to fil...

Re: Strange World

Yes, this isn’t the hugest surprise, being that it’s Encanto and Eternals over again, releasing around Thanksgiving and then putting the Disney film on D+, which makes sense, while holding back Marvel until the new year, which also makes sense. Which just shows you where the emphasis is at the comp...

Re: Harry Potter and the Wizarding World

If you sat through most of the almost Tim Burton-level "Muggle persecution of Magic-users" subplot in the first FB...you'd have some idea. Persecution of magical people was already in HP. It happened to Arianna Dumbledore in the 7th book. The stuff with Credence being an Obscurus was setup to relat...
