Re: Oscar Contest 2019 - 15th Anniversary!

11? Huh. This was one of my worst years ever, score wise. My original pick for BP was actually Green Book, but then that movie got some negative press for whatever reason (even though, as far as I can tell as someone who hasn't seen it, it looks like a good film), so I went "What the heck? Wakanda f...

March 4th?

James, you might want to check your Oscar calendar. ;) :)

Re: Oscar Contest 2019 - 15th Anniversary!

Ballot submitted! And I've actually seen all four versions, having seen the first three films years ago. The Garland version is heartbreaking, of course, though sadly the so-called "original version" is apparently lost as it was shortened by a studio that was concerned over it being overly long (so ...

Re: Oscar Contest 2019 - 15th Anniversary!

Of the Best Picture nominations I've seen, A Star is Born is the one I loved the most. Profoundly moving and raw, but it's looking like its award chances have slimmed over the past few weeks.

Still, fingers crossed. Who knows? My votes might just improve its chances. ;)

Re: Oscar Contest 2019 - 15th Anniversary!

Almost no frontrunners this year, so this is going to take a lot of guessing!

Re: Disney's Frozen

I liked that bit. Stuff like that works great for teaser trailers (kinda like the toddler Moana clip that was used for an early preview for that film). Heck, I actually would've been cool if they had done a whole preview that way (but I also like that they apparently haven't shown the whole scene he...

Re: Disney's Frozen

Going by the seasonal shift, they could've simply called the film "Autumn." ;)

Re: Disney's Frozen

How to Train Your Elsa.

No, seriously, this looks pretty much like How to Train Your Dragon II in terms of tone.

Looks great!

Re: The Lego Movie

If you liked the first Lego Movie, you're probably going to like The Lego Movie 2. And if you didn't like the first Lego Movie...you're probably still going to like The Lego Movie 2. It's less "manic" than the original while still being loaded with jokes, and the songs are actually pretty great (sim...

Re: New Popular Film Oscar

No host, but apparently they "don't have time" to show all the awards being given out, so four will awarded during commercial breaks. This is, as I said elsewhere, both dumb and unfair to those who are winning. If they have no host doing a ten minute monologue, they definitely "have time"... https:/...

Re: The John Lasseter saga

Skydance wouldn't have done this without very carefully considering their options. This gives them a "name," which going forward may be exactly what they're looking for, and JL after everything that happened is definitely going to "behave himself" for want of a better term. Not saying if I agree to ...

Re: The John Lasseter saga

At the end of the day, it made sense for JL to stay involved in animation...though in this case it was probably a lot sooner than many were expecting.

It will be interesting to see what he does with a rising studio at his fingertips.
