Re: Iron Giant

I didn't notice any new footage on the Blu-ray that wasn't in the theatrical Signature Edition. Still, I recommend this purchase to anyone, even those who have the DVD. It carries over all the supplements from the DVD (except the WB version of the theatrical trailer and the storyboard versions of th...

Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and DC MOVIES

I occasionally give in to reading comments on DC movie news on various sites, and I'm surprised how many people think the Ultimate Cut is leaps and bounds better than the original. It's perhaps no surprise that such people liked the film in the first place. (The comments often go something like, "Th...

Re: Favorite And Least Favorite Studio Ghibli Movie?

Only Yesterday Blu-0ray review! http://animatedviews.com/2016/only-yesterday-blu-ray/ I'm as big of a fan of Hayao Miyazaki's films as anyone, but I have to say that Isao Takahata's The Tale of Princess Kaguya is my favorite Ghibli film and that Only Yesterday is probably in my top 5 as well. Maybe...

Re: Ghostbusters III - OFFICIAL THREAD

Yo, the new Ghostbusters was a ton of fun and one of the better blockbusters this summer (boy has it been a dire summer for big-budget fare, with only Ghostbusters and Captain America: Civil War rising above "meh"). I haven't seen Ghostbusters (and I probably won't until it hits Netflix or somethin...

Re: The Secret Life of Pets

Very good point Vernadyn. Animated films used to be an "event". Now so much of the magic is gone. I think Pixar is the only studio that has held onto some of that quality, despite the rare misstep. Yeah. I was a kid when The Lion King came out, but the buzz and excitement of the theater experience ...

Re: The Secret Life of Pets

It's funny...Illumination seems to have taken on the "bad boy" tag for disrupting the animation field just as DreamWorks did back in the day. Blue Sky or Sony never really achieved that, being either "nice" or just kind of "there", but Illumination seems to have picked up that mantle now that DWA h...

Re: The Secret Life of Pets

I sometimes feel like a bad person and a killjoy for not liking the minions. In the Illumination logo, when that minion screeches "Illumination!" twice and proceeds to make a sound like a chipmunk being dragged behind a cement mixer, everyone else is laughing their heads off and I'm probably the onl...

Re: Avengers 2 and the MCU

The Russo brothers have managed to hone a kinetic, thrilling style for action scenes while incorporating emotional and thematic beats true to the characters. Sure, the airport scene and climax were exhilarating, but it would have been just a sound and light show if I hadn't cared about the character...

Re: Will Disney buy DWA? No! Universal did!

Bold argument (I guess?), but I would make the claim that DreamWorks has actually rivaled Pixar in the "technical" department. Look at the animation in How to Train Your Dragon 2 . Pixar has really never done anything on that scale (except for perhaps WALL-E ). Maybe, but it's still not leaps and b...

Re: Will Disney buy DWA? No! Universal did!

Amidst this breaking news, I couldn't help noticing a tidbit in the Hollywood Reporter article: DreamWorks hires rocket scientists to help make its animation look better. Does that mean that the other major animation studios do too? And if not, why doesn't DWA's animation look any more technically i...

Re: Zootopia

But wow...I mean, is it really one of the best animated movies of ALL TIME, as several critics have been so enthusiastically declaring? I think this may be a case of critics having short memories as far as animated movies are concerned. I mean, the animated films that came out prior to Zooto...

Re: Pokemon Live Action Movie!

If this turns out anything like the anime, I'll pass. But if it resembles the Pokemon Adventures manga (called Pocket Monsters Special in Japan) by Hidenori Kusaka--I think I'd just about lose my mind out of excitement.

Re: Avengers 2 and the MCU

They finally got Green Goblin right, but it was in TASM2, darnit! And the last twenty minutes of the movie, too! Maybe, but I disliked the actor's portrayal. He had no menace at all, and his laugh sounded like a toddler playing with his action figures pretending to be a villain. I admit that...

Re: Harry Potter

I admit that I've never been much of a Harry Potter fan--both books and movies (and yes, I did manage to get through all the books). But what has me most excited about this film is the news that James Newton Howard will be doing the score. http://filmmusicreporter.com/2016/04/07/james-newton-howard-...

Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and

Doomsday actually cracked me up in how they didn't know how to make him big or scary, seeing that we've seen this all before. So they literally just have him explode with energy and the screen goes ballistic with light, energy and sound rumbling, as if bigger and bigger and bigger is better, better...
