Re: The New DVD and Blu Thread

Doom's already out on Blu-ray , but as for Roger Rabbit, Dick Tracy and the Rocketeer, anyone know if there's legal troubles standing in the way of most of Disney's '85-'95 Silver Screen Partners movies? Most of the others weren't classic, but apart from "Pretty Woman", they seem to have dropped off...

Re:

Anyway, if they have the capacity, why not? The only thing to worry about is that people might not have enough money to go to all of their movies! :P The problem, as we found out with late-90's Disney and its many, many imitators, is that Familiarity Breeds Contempt. The audience thought the "formu...

For those who haven't followed, it's "Captain America: the First Avenger" (hinting that the rest are coming soon enough, after Thor's movie and a third Iron Man without Favreau), and concentrates on his WWII days--But it's got a good "What Inglorious Basterds SHOULD have been" look, from the set/cos...

Jeff tends to believe DW's own publicity--Especially from business journals that don't know any better, and rave "Look how prolific they were they were last year...They had Dragon AND Megamind!" Naturally, with this rush of attention, Jeffrey assumes this is the secret to success, and that more is b...

Re: Lidsville- The Movie (in 3D)

EVERYBODY thinks the Kroffts were "on drugs", because their stuff was so loopy. They weren't: It was just the 70's, and live-action was cheaper. (And at least they weren't Filmation's Shazam/Isis, or the two Sherwood Schwartz sitcoms we got on NBC Saturday morning...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Again, like P&S, this is another rights holder doing their OWN selling to Dreamworks, and Jeffrey grabbing every opportunity he can see, because until the numbers come in he still thinks "three movies a year" is a good thing-- I could've seen a real Land of the Lost movie without Will Ferrell, but I...

Re:

But I must say I'm itching to see Tangled, and given the conversation it's sparked here, I might have to get over the crummy, picture-degrading 3D aspect and just go see the thing. It's a debate over Tangled and Black Swan for Monday night, though I've a feeling my lady will win out (as always!) on...

Re: Blue Sky's Rio

First time(s) I saw the preview, I found myself thinking, "Okay, so basically, right down the line, this IS what Pixar's Newt would've been, only in some other studio's generic form, right?" (I know I said that about Alpha & Omega, but in this case... WOW:  Not just the last-remaining-endange...

Re: Re:

Noooooo, you ARE a curmudgeon. But that's fine. Every well-rounded group needs one. (Well, was applying the standards of "At least he doesn't keep talking about John Seely music and encyclopedically reciting the IMDB filmographies of June Foray"....Although, seriously, the DC stuff does c...

Seriously--Dusty, thank you, you're taking away my "Annoying kook" status. (Now, let's be fair: "K00k" has a very specific meaning on the Internet-- It does not refer to just any old crank and cannot be tossed around lightly...For nearly twenty years, it has earned a highly technical definition as: ...

Re:

and why The Jungle Book is full of a swingning sixties vibe (explaining it's then-contemporary success) and is not a long and drawn out 1940s style drama, the way it was originally conceived. And Walt had no problems with Beatles vultures, but drew the line at Frankie Fontaine rhinos... (But then, ...

There's RUMORS-mind-you that there may have been "Enchanted cures everything" talk at the studio of cutting their losses and doing Snow Queen as a live-action musical for Kevin Lima to direct-- But it's only studio animator-scuttlebutt, and subject to change on the fortunes of the next movie they ha...

Re:

Looks awful. Not just the "look", but the whole thing. And that's supposed to be a teaser that entices us to watch the thing!? Leaving aside the "New WB" style, you can spot the other new-generation heresy: THERE IS. NO. FREAKIN'. LOLA. BUNNY. We do not recognize Space Jam canon. (And from the char...
