Re: Harry Potter and the Wizarding World

JK says she's going to write a lot of obscure woke backstory, with no imaginable kid appeal, for us herself! " I'm not sure what this means, but Grindelwald and Dumbledore having been in love with one another is neither obscure nor "woke." If The Secrets of Dumbledore is the last, it ended the tril...

Re: Did Disney really care about Studio Ghibli?

Disney had a fairly good success with Kiki's Delivery Service on VHS, back when almost NO ONE had heard of Studio Ghibli (apart from Roger Ebert's praise for Troma's dub of "My Neighbor Totoro" in theaters). Kiki was the first Ghibli film I'd ever seen, back in the '90s when I was a child, because ...

Re: Strange World

I did get around to seeing both Encanto and Raya in theaters even with the pandemic. Enjoyed them both, so I was glad I did. I do plan to see Strange World, too, even though it's still a question mark to me in a lot of ways.

Re: Aladdin

I wonder if Hunchback has ever shown out-of-stock before? Maybe this is simply because it's new and a lot of people are ordering it at once. I just wonder if it'll eventually stabilize and be available in a year's time still or if it might be gone for good soon? If the latter, I'll feel better about...

Re: Strange World

It's like an unofficial sequel to The Day After Tomorrow with Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid reprising their father/son roles. ;) I did think of The Day After Tomorrow what with realizing Dennis Quaid was voicing the grandfather and the whole story being about their "world" being in danger, lol.

Re: Aladdin

I assume you ordered it when it was up the first time? I only ordered mine yesterday along with the Hunchback release. I miss when these were on Amazon and I could get them at $12-15 a piece though. :x :(

Re: Disney's The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

The sets for most of B&tB were gorgeous. The outfits were more of a mixed bag, but they did have some good ones though. I loved a lot of Aladdin 's costumes though, particularly the Prince Ali look and Jasmine's wardrobe. I agree, Halle can sing, but a lot of the others in the cast can't. I see it a...

Re: Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Live-Action)

It's probably fake, but it looks about what I expect. I've always felt the Queen's design makes her look ugly for someone who's "fairest" (or wannabe "fairest," anyway). That proves it, because it even makes the gorgeous Gal Gadot look drab.

Re: Disney's The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

I think it looks "okay"... Not as good as Aladdin or B&tB for me, but I may end up enjoying it, overall--for what it is.

Re: Strange World

I think the designs bother me a little less having seen the trailer now. The characters have a certain weight to them. I guess from the designs, I thought they'd be all bend-y and all over the place like Sony films, in other words they'd move as cartoony as they look. Thankfully that's not the case.

Re: Disney's Pinocchio (Live-Action)

I don't think it's too odd they kept Pinocchio's design the same considering he isn't a human character anyway, he's supposed to be some cutesy creation to be sold. Personally, I'm excited for this one. Pinocchio has always been in my top 10 Disney films anyway, and I'm glad to see it's staying pret...

Re: Don Bluth discussion

The Land Before Time is my favorite Bluth film. I love the tension, the real sense of danger in that film. It's very terrifying. I miss films like this, The Lion King , The Little Mermaid , etc. where there was real fear and darkness. You can't have a fully satisfying children's story without them,...

Re: Favorite And Least Favorite Studio Ghibli Movie?

Kiki's Delivery Service has always been my favorite. There's a charming domesticity about that film that makes it a soothing watch. The only competition for it really is Princess Mononoke . I'd put Spirited Away and My Neighbors the Yamadas more firmly after those two. My least favorite is either T...

Re: Kung Fu Panda

I'm so happy they've finally announced another one. I admit the third one was on the weaker side, but I loved the first two. Hopefully this one will have less focus on all the panda village and more on Po's group of fighters again.

Re: Strange World

Oh, yes, you're right. I'm just so used to these things being buddy roadtrips. Plus, with the story centering on the grandfather's relationship to the father and the father's relationship to the son, I assumed all three would have pretty big roles?
