ACLU Wants Federal Investigation Into Hollywood Gender Bias Against Women

It's been pretty blatant that there's a gender double standard in Hollywood, with female directors having a rougher time in the world of cinema finding opportunities for employment. Thankfully, the American Civil Liberties Union is calling for a federal investigation for rampant gender bias in Holly...

Re: Avengers 2 Age of Ultron

I dunno, I actually think Winter Soldier works fine as a standalone sequel to the The First Avenger, though Civil War introducing a number of new characters (Iron Man, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, Black Panther) makes it difficult, though not impossible, to conclude as a cohesive trilogy.

Re: Avengers 2 Age of Ultron

I do think it's very, very cool that they've tried this, and that they can crossover characters and storylines between films, but just let's not kid ourselves that at the end we'll also have coherent Captain America, Iron Man and Thor trilogies. The names may differ, but since the second Iron Man m...

Re: X-Men Movies Thread

One of my favorite parts of First Class and Days of Future Past was seeing the mutants interact with various pop culture artifacts of the 60's and 70's, so I'm glad to see that being carried over with aplomb to Apoclaypse.

Re: Man of Steel, Justice League and DC MOVIES

Ben wrote:Why does Batman sound like Jigsaw from the Saw movies?
Because now he's super dark and gritty! Don't you know, Ben, that the only way to make characters that have been beloved for countless decades "cool" is to make them as dark as possible??

Re: Incredibles 2

I somehow see Incredibles 2 taking place years after the first one. To the point where Violet and Dash are young adults. I've always had this idea that the sequel should take place 20 years into the future, an age where Violet is the world's most well known superhero who must destroy the world's mo...

Re: Avengers 2 Age of Ultron

So why use her (and Quicksilver) and cause potential audience confusion? Avengers has a long way to go to beat X-Men's treatment of Quicksilver, that's for sure. In addition to the good point Dacey made, I'll also note that the characters seem to have completely different personalities. DOFP Quicks...

Re: Mulan (Live-action remake)

They still reportedly have Jon Favreau's live-action Jungle Book next year, which was dueling with Warner's "Jungle Book: Origins", but have a feeling there'll be a new push by the studio and only one will be left standing. (Or at least in theaters.) Actually, Warner Bros. dueling Jungle Book movie...

Re: DreamWorks' "Home"

Having seen it, I can attest to the idea that "nothing special" sums up Home nicely. There's some nice animation, a couple of clever gags and the pacing is decent, but Oh, the main character, is a pretty poorly written creation and a major reason why the movie doesn't work. He's too over-the-top in ...
