Re: OFFICIAL STAR WARS THREAD (combined)

Considering Panasonic is involved, some say both...

Re: RIP, Blake Edwards; Pink Panther director dies after illness

Thought Romance was the "lost" footage that was recycled into "Trail of the PP" after Sellers' death (and you can see the point twenty minutes in where imitators had to be called in to fill in the post-dubbing)-- Trail and Curse were actually planned as a closed two-part finale for Clouseau's charac...

Re:

Wow...So it really IS the Country Bears Movie. :?

(And besides, "Manhattan" did the Muppets-in-retirement jokes better--If Richard Hunt were alive, Scooter would still be working at a 3-D movie theater...)

Re: The NEW Muppet Movie

Eric, I seriously have no idea where you're even getting this "information." I've even done a google search on the matter, and guess what I found? Nothing. Yes, there ARE some times when even Wikipedia is Better Than Nothing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_and_the_Chipmunks#The_Chipmunks.27_fut...

Re:

Nothing would please me more than to see the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise be completely abolished, but the Bagdarsarians know they have a massive cash-cow on their hands and I doubt they would ever stop production on the third film. Playing devil's advocate here, but no, cancelling the "Alvin"...

Re: The NEW Muppet Movie

(Well, no, they didn't think the first film was as much of a hit, and we didn't get the posters/teasers for #2 until JUNE...That's the point. They wouldn't have gotten so arrogant about "their" franchise in the first place if the second film hadn't been a hit, and yes, I know the marketing's a year ...

Re: The NEW Muppet Movie

The way I heard it, the Bagdasarians had major legal property issues with Fox essentially taking over and marketing the franchise as their own after the second movie and not considering the Chipmunks as an existing pop group; there were "irreconcilable differences", and Ross Jr. pulled the character...

Re:

Don't think Lisa Henson was ever at Disney, Eric. You're getting confused with the split between Disney and The Jim Henson Co. I thought Brian was allowed to run the company, and Lisa was allowed to exploit the brandname for Disney projects--Where's the split? Just watch Fox plonk Alvin 3 into that...

Re: Family Guy

And Eric, sometimes I literally don't understand a word you say. Just saying that if Seth's quest for the Next Shock seems a little "mean-spirited", it's only out of boredom-- He's always looking for that next adrenaline rush against society, which is...every few seconds or so. That's the general t...

It WAS one of Lisa Henson's official Disney-department ideas for spinning off existing Muppet characters into movie projects, but with the Dark Crystal sequel constantly in and out of production, that's looking less likely. Right now, the entire Muppet future is riding on the main-Muppet movie, and ...

The storyline and animation were top notch, and many of the gags were good. But some of it--and this remains FG's biggest weakness--was mean-spirited for the sake of being so, not for the sake of being funny. I hate it when the writers come up with a gag, say to themselves "this is really going to ...

And getting back to your earlier question, what we miss is the ability for a movie like Babe, or Driving Miss Daisy, TO get nominated anymore. The individuality's been drained out of the Academy, and there's less and less chance for the voters to personally rally for a "populist" favorite to get a l...

Re: Re:

I actually liked Daft Punk's music, though kept aching for a reference to the Wendy Carlos score Doesn't Jeff Bridges hum a few notes in the opening scene? At least, it sounded like like the Carlos music to me. Yep--"(action figure) This was Tron...'Da da-da, da DAA!'" As Barnard Hughes would point...

Re:

And I found I really liked Sam Flynn, despite not going gaga over the actor in the trailers and clips . I actually found my self flashing back on Eisner's complaint about Jim Hawkins in "Treasure Planet" originally being "too grumpy". With Sam for the first half of the movie, I could kind of see wh...
