Re: DreamWorks Dragons

I don't know if it's the same as the TV show, but I did see the "special" that was on the HTTYD 2 Blu-ray. Not only did the animation kind of stink, but the writing wasn't that great either. I've already forgotten what happened in it.

Re: Inside Out

To be honest, though, an "Outside Edition" of the film wouldn't be much different drama-wise from many of the lesser indie films being made today.

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

He totally wouldn't fit the Star Wars style, but it would be cool if Hans Zimmer did the score for an anthology film. 8) Personally, I'm feeling a bit of Zimmer overexposure. I mean, he's the only composer who's scored for the three big superheroes (Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man) and has also go...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

Well, if the Internet is correct (and things don't get shuffled around), Desplat will in fact be doing the Rogue One spinoff. I don't think his Harry Potter scores sounded much like Williams's, but his scores do demonstrate remarkable versatility. Unbroken, Imitation Game, Monuments Men, Grand Budap...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

As for who could do Star Wars today, I look at the Harry Potter scores for an example: Williams gave up after the third one, and in #3 you could see him trying to liven up the job by putting new unusual themes into the mix, but at that point anyone could assemble the existing motifs and just add ex...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

Ah yes, how could I forget… Family Guy isn't my type of humor or storytelling (I much prefer South Park, Futurama, and "classic" Simpsons), but I loved that gag. (And the Red October one.) Of course, it should go without saying that Elfman wouldn't write in that "oompah" style should he ever be offe...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

Mix Batman and his contributions to Age of Ultron and that could work. Elfman's style is usually quite distinctive (even apart from the stereotypical cooing choirs and "bouncy" rhythms), so who knows whether his style would mesh well with Williams's. I would certainly welcome him on one of the spin-...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

IMO, Bruce Broughton could probably pull-off a decent Star Wars score. These days, Broughton works much less than his considerable talent deserves, so I admit that I forgot about him as an option--and I did like his recent music for Texas Rising, written with John Debney. In fact, Debney's music fo...

Re: Official Star Wars Thread

I enjoyed it, even though it felt more like the set-up for a trilogy than a standalone story. I actually think the "big emotional scenes" were done well for Star Wars standards, only trumped by Empire Strikes Back. What could have been done better were the moments right after those scenes--the film ...

Re: Inside Out

George Miller, like Robert Rodriguez, needs to stay away from "family-friendly" films. I suppose Babe is a cute time-filler (and yes, I'm aware he didn't actually direct that one), but Best Picture material? I applaud him for trying to branch out, but as Fury Road shows, he's better when he's in his...

Re: Independence Day: Resurgence

No David Arnold composing the score=what minuscule interest I had going out the window. Harald Kloser and Thomas Wander's scores for previous Emmerich films have all been bland, so I'm not expecting much from this one. Say what you will about Stargate, the original Independence Day, Godzilla, and Th...

Re: More Miyazaki on US Blu Ray

although, with regards to Whedon's incoherent babbling on the commentary track for Age of Ultron--a movie I very much enjoyed--, that might be a good thing). Yeah, I listened to that commentary track and I don't know what happened there, especially because I remember enjoying his commentary for The...

Re: The Good Dinosaur

I don't want to turn this thread into "Why Vernadyn Couldn't Really Relate to Spot," so I'll mention my thoughts on Mychael and Jeff Danna's score. In his review, James mentioned that "You might not walk out humming the music," and I concur. I couldn't really recall any themes after I saw the movie ...

Re: The Good Dinosaur

Well, I'm not denying that the choice to make Spot act like he did worked in the world of the movie. It's just that I find it hard to relate to primitive/animalistic/feral human characters in general. That kid in The Croods was basically Stitch, but I like Stitch much more. (Granted, there are a hos...

Re: The Good Dinosaur

Yeah. I was just saying that I'd have related more with Spot if he'd been either a human that acted like a human, or a dog (or other critter) that acted like a dog. I guess a dog that acted like a human would've been OK too, but that probably would've made him too similar to Arlo who, after all, is ...
