Many were predicting a huge take for this. Wow. Made back its budget in a weekend. That doesn't happen much these days.

I've officially added that to my list of films I intend to go and see but will probably end up watching on disc in my home theater.

Smurfs was heavily merchandised as a comic and characters way before the TV show.

And they were big enough to star in a feature long before Hanna-Barbera got their hands on them.
