Re: James Cameron's Avatar

Does anyone else also see elements of 1981's Heavy Metal in this movie? James Cameron is a fan of both HM magazine and the 1981 animated cult classic as there's similarities to Den and Taarna in this movie. Let's see, Capt. Stern and Harry Canyon vs. the Tree of Life?....Nnnnno. (Heavy Metal came f...

And besides, it wasn't March yet, and we didn't have the real Easter-vacation studio movies taking their proper place in theaters (not sure about Rango, but Mars Needs Moms, there's something to be sad about). Jan-Feb. is the time for movies like "Hoodwinked" to come out and pretend to be king of th...

Yours are those dried tumbleweeds over there, the ones that are blowing around over by those crickets chirping on that dead horse.) :)

Re: James Cameron's Avatar

Ponyo was a Japanese retelling of The Little Mermaid. No mystery there to me... I had no trouble following it. I'd first thought Miyazaki was doing some Lasseter-buddy tribute to Finding Nemo, and Disney only hyping the "mermaid" comparisons to sell the studio name-- But when the script mentions "t...

Re:

I've been tempted to get Treasure of Matecumbe, but not enough to spend points on it, and besides, like "Donald in Mathmagic Land", it's already gone to retail. (And I'd get "Sky High" on Blu, if I hadn't already weakened and bought it back when it was one of Disney first and only five Blu-ray disks...

There is a quite conspicuous difference in how children are being portrayed in Bolt and how they are being portrayed Toy Story 3. (Well, I think I've narrowed down the reason: I'm pretty sure it's either due to their being different movies, or different directors--One of the two. I'd wondered about...

Or, they probably figured, what was the point of engraving the others?.. ;)

(And, as Dustin Hoffman observed, he is naked and holding a sword.
The Oscar, that is, not Lee Unkrich.)

Ah, yes, Valley of the Dinosaurs--
I remember it premiering on CBS the same day as NBC's other series about canoe-trip folks who'd gotten caught in a disaster and ended up in dinosaur country; whatever happened to that show? ;)
