What animated movies were animated by one person?

Post by Herni »

Hey, I’m looking to find examples of feature length animated movies that were made completely by 1 person. I know of "Sita sings the Blues" and "Minushi". Can anybody find any others?

Bill Plympton's works were the first that came to mind.

And though, not feature-length, the Carnival of the Animals short in Fantasia 2000 was mainly Eric Goldberg's work being displayed.

I think that he did the animation, but his wife did the painting. At least if memory serves.

And I had no idea that "Sealed with a Kiss" was made by one person. How is that even possible?

He drew for four years!

But, realistically, NO one film can ever be made by one person. They all have help or support in various measures. Final dubbing, music scoring, master prints, etc, aren't done by "one" person, no matter where the credit goes.

In most cases, these people write, direct the voice sessions and animate the film themselves, and that's what counts.

Voices of a Different Star (2002) was done entirely by Makoto Shinkai on a Mac.

One can almost argue that Lotte Reiniger's The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Die Abenteuer das Prinzen Achmed, 1926) was done entirely by herself. She did a lot of her silhouette animation herself.
