Hehe, the first one was weired, But kinda funny.

Yeah, here's a partial translation:

Journalist: (in Hebrew) I saw the movie, and as you can see I speak--
SBC: (In English) Oh, you speak Kazahk!
Journalist: (in Hebrew) I speak Kazahk almost as well as you do.

(In Hebrew)

Journalist: What do people in Kahzastan think of the whole Israeli/Palestinian issue?
SBC: It's not that important for us...we are more concerned with Uzbekhastan....they are very inferior people, and are always causing us problems.

Narrator: People all over the world think Borat is speaking Kazahk, but for us it's a little harder to mistake...

Has anyone ever seen this on YouTube (originally saw it on TAG blog)

It's all about "Disney's Tom and Jerry...."

Not to get into a political discussion, just thought it was interesting.

What a dolt. All of that is wrong (about T&J).

Everyone knows that Tom and Jerry was created at the Van Beuren Studio. ;)

Very cool J!! :) Thanks.

Not to talk about Farfur anymore than necessary on this board, but I just thought it was interesting that his name, "Farfur" actually means butterfly in Palestinian Arabic (there are different Arab dialects all over the middle east) and the Hebrew word for butterfly is...Parpar.

Kinda funny....but really sad in an ironic way. :(

Also, just curious....how did this VB version of Tom and Jerry ever find their way to MGM/Hannah Barbera anyway?? :?

Also, Van Beuren....he's not related to Martin Van Beuren, former US President, is he?

(I think the spelling is different right....?)

Van Beuren's Tom And Jerry are as far removed from Hanna-Barbera's MGM Tom & Jerry as you could ever find!

I think the VB ones were based on a Vaudeville act of some kind, going by shaky memories here, and literally were a couple of guys that did silly things.

Years later, MGM put out a cartoon called "Puss Gets The Boot". At this time, it featured a mouse with no name and a cat called Jasper. If I remember correctly, a second cartoon also used the name Jasper for the cat. With these becoming successful, MGM asked HB to formulate an official teaming of these two characters and start a series.

The cat was called Tom ("Tom Cat", geddit?) and once that was in place, I would imagine that Jerry either followed because someone remembered something like that from Vaudeville, or it was a direct nod to the earlier series (more likely that, with that series' demise, no-one would remember the VB Tom and Jerry, so a name lift wouldn't have been so noticable).

In any event, the characters never became confused with each other until home video allowed a series of public domain releases to come out, starring "Tom And Jerry". Naturally, some people were annoyed they'd picked up a cheap disc which was nothing like they had expected, while others recognized the vintage and rare nature of the material.

With the "Rainbow Parade" series, Van Beuren actually put out some nice cartoons directed and scored by some later big names. He is not related to the President, as far as I am aware.

That's fascinating!! I think I might have even seen such bargain-bin VHS tapes like that in a store when I was young and wondered why the heck they were called "Tom and Jerry".

Love learning about all these obscure "public domain" issues.... Thanks. :)
