Gothic Horror Disney

Post by GeorgeC » August 29th, 2009, 1:22 pm

No... this is not the same as those semi-trampy Disney Princess pictures posted a while ago.

This is a horror take on Disney characters. Not graphic or any worse than Nightmare Before Christmas. However, I do not want to link to the website these came from since that art site is known for hosting some more mature images.

Here are four "Twisted" Disney pictures...

I hope something like this is explored if "Epic Mickey" comes to be.

You might want to take off that link...

There is some pretty adult stuff on that website.

That's why I didn't want to link directly to it and posted the images from a free image-hosting site.

I'm not seeing anything, but just to be safe I went ahead and removed Sunday's link.

It's fairly easy for anybody to register on the site in question that I was talking about and pose as an adult.

I didn't want to directly link to it because of the more explicit images and naughty stuff there.

The "Twisted Disney" stuff isn't worse than what you'd see in The Nightmare Before Christmas but I was thinking about the General Audience rating of this site when I took the action I did.

Glad you guys took my advice and removed the link somebody else put up.

You don't want to invite trouble if you can avoid it...

Oh my.

I think we've just now moved beyond "Family Safe" to "Extreme Care, FRAGILE, Handle With Caution, Dear God Don't EVER Use the Internet" mode. :( It's a sad day when one can't even link to one of the single largest art communities online today. The chief motive for linking being to give proper credit to the artist involved on their chosen gallery space.

(Please note: I'd have given a similar response, sans motive part, even if it wasn't my post that was edited. Heading off users' potential actions regarding a link which does not contain objectionable content is not a route I wish to take; this being a reference to the signing up to be a member of the site in question. I could also link to the artist's personal website, but lo, that too would fall into question as it crosslinks to the site in question, despite being a part of the "safe" Blogspot network. Or the comments on that blog might contain people with an unchecked mouth and who knows what filth might be uttered there! Am I allowed to utter the artist's name? What if when Googling it someone might stumble across something which would invite trouble, such as the artists personal blog or gallery, possibly the only two things one could want to achieve by searching that name? :(:(:()

Sunday,

That's not an excuse.

You know darn well that DA hosts nude images, explicit and semi-pornographic art on the website in addition to a lot of good work from comic book artists and hobbyists.

There are very good reasons why you don't link to certain websites from here --
a) young children visit this site;
b) the webmasters have relationships with certain companies and don't want to jeopardize them by linking to material that may compromise the integrity of said-company's IP's;
c) and the webmasters just don't want the hassle of potential fallout from links to very adult/NC-17 material.

Very explosive art exists on DA whether you want to admit it or not.

You have to censor yourself sometimes and think of the greater good of the community here, too.

I've censored myself a few times and have gotten warnings when I've crossed that delicate line, too.

I've also helped out a time or two by warning the moderators about some websites as well.

Okay...in this case, I'm going to allow the link. I don't see anything on that particular page that warrants a barring of that gallery, and even if my personal tastes don't run to exactly finding the point of these, I can appreciate the unique angle and work involved.

So, here ya go: http://jeftoon01.deviantart.com/gallery ... d-Princess

But heed this warning that there's some pretty questionable stuff elsewhere on that site too.

However, I wouldn't cancel out a link unless the actual page could be deemed unsuitable, but please do not bring Daniel up on this topic: he was just safeguarding what he felt was within our parameters, and quite rightly, before James or myself could take a look. If we cut links to other pages that may lead to other content and did that all the time, think of all the YouTube links we'd have to take down!

George I do understand the valid concern at play here, and I'm not at all ignorant about the content on dA (I've been a member there for years). Mature images on dA are not publicly viewable by default. There will always be something which gets through, but I wouldn't ever link to something ill-advised from here (for instance, if the artist in this case had a few other surprises in that same gallery, even if they had been replaced with mature filter thumbnails).
