More Trek on Big Bang --

The Worst Star Trek movie...

WRONG Rajesh! It's Star Trek: TMP which is the most pretentious and BORING of the original six films. ST: Insurrection might be the worst Star Trek film of all, PERIOD...!

This is NOT Star Trek!

Evil Nerds...

I can CLONE him!

Sheldon's NEW Arch-Foe...
WARNING: Language; Sexual Terminology

Oh, MY...!!
WARNING: Not for the faint of heart/He-Man Woman Hater's Club; mild kissing

And that's all there really is worth quoting besides Little Spock.

I HATE Dora the Explorer...

To me, she's as insipid as Barney the Dinosaur... Continuing the dumbing down of American kids.

On the other hand, this spoof is pretty darn good!

Well, that was great. There are so many of these "kids cartoon as action movie" parody videos, but this one is honestly very funny.

An awesomely epic achievement, in that it could sell sports cars as well. (And is it wrong that I actually PREFER this to 90 whole minutes of Warner's Yogi Bear movie?)
Anyone can get baby-boomer laughs with Penelope Pitstop and Muttley, but I doff my cap to the artist who chose to go the extra technical mile in casting the Gruesome Twosome, the Surplus Special, and the Ant Hill Mob, even for only don't-blink shots in a 90-second piece.

No, it's not wrong. But then you wouldn't want 90 mins of this either! ;)

One need only watch Blake Edwards' The Great Race in order to experience a movie-length Wacky Races.

.. but IMO this commercial is a perfect encapsulation of how a Wacky Races movie adaptation should look and 'feel', in terms of production design and effects.

I agree that the casting is top-notch (I didn't even catch on to the fact that the Ant Hill Mob were all 'true-to-form', until I saw their group photo in EricJ's link!) .. and the Muttley puppet is fantastic. :)

I wonder whether such a commercial would have even been attempted here in the U.S., though .. aside from random late-night airings on Boomerang, it doesn't seem that Wacky Races has much of a recognition-factor these days. :?

The series was still huge in Japan when I lived there, selling WR toys and merchandise well into the late-1980s -- and also seems well-appreciated in Mexico and South America.

BTW, Cartoon Brew posted a slightly longer cut of this commercial over the weekend.

The Japanese have an astounding fascination for Wacky Races--Not only have they parodied it a number of times with other anime series (there was one with Gall Force vs. Bubblegum Crisis back in the day), homages to Muttley have been sighted in anime here and there.
Even Hayao Miyazaki may have stuck one in as the dog in "Howl's Moving Castle.

I'd even go so far as to theorize that it may have first given JP videogame designers the idea for "Recognizable characters in goofy cars" when they first turned Mario into a race game...And the rest is history.
(Without Wacky Races, there might never have been Sugar Rush. :) )

Although the non-dialogue in the commercial is all obscured gibberish for foreign export, there's Peugot's own extended 90-second cut on YouTube (CB's is 76) where you can just barely make out the "live" Dick Dastardly fuming in English "Double drat! Triple drat!" in the water after wiping out on the bridge.
Again, the true artist sweats the details.

Incredible short. 4.5 minutes and you'll love the ending. Don't want to give anything else away!
