Hey all,
I just had a question. Does anyone else feel that using the word "cartoon" to denote a full-length feature animated film is a bit derogatory? I've always used the word "cartoon" to denote animated shorts or animated TV shows, but I just find it derogatory to use it to describe a full-length animated feature. Anyone else share my views?

I've been thinking this for years. I agree 100%. Animated films can be comedy, romance, drama, horror, war etc. "Cartoon" is not a genre. It's like calling live-action films "Real People Movies".

Nope, "cartoon" works okay for me. The definition is broad enough to encompass anything. Flash Gordon and Blondie are cartoon strips, and they're quite different.
But it's true animated films are certainly not a "genre". They constitute a medium.
