Aside from "What a Wonderful World" being used yet again, (though it does fit), I think this looks tremendously beautiful. Love the almost painted watercolor quality. Shades of Iron Giant, Wall-E...etc. I'm hyped!

Decided to have a spontaneous trip to the movies yesterday to watch this and I didn't regret my decision. It has been a long time between Dreamworks movies for me. Pretty sure the last one I watched was The Croods 2. It's been so long, I had no idea they changed their studio vanity card thing.

I have found recent Dreamworks movies, based solely on the trailers, to be aimed for at children than families. The trailer for this looked like Dreamworks remembered to make films the whole family can enjoy, and if that was their mission then they definitely succeeded.

I found the beginning a bit chaotic but once it settled down with the arrival of the gosling, the movie found its charm and never let it go. Roz can be added to the list of animated robots that pulled at the heart strong. It's very easy to see this as The Iron Giant 2.0 but it does stand on its own merits story wise. And while I did get a little choked up, I do feel it would have been better to have one emotional punch in the gut moment rather than the 3 that we got.

I also appreciated that the movie didn't shy away from referencing death and it being a natural thing for the world. So many family films stil treat death as a taboo subject - unless the character miraculously comes back to life. I also liked a couple of the jokes thrown in for adults that the kids probably would not have picked up on. My favourite line was a character saying 'Male bovine excrement'

I highly recommend this movie, it's a return to form for Dreamworks. But it definitely doesn''t need a sequel.

Don't get me wrong, this movie is far from cracking my all time animated top 10 but I feel lately that the majority of animated films coming out of America lately have been aimed at the kid market instead of the family market. I found it refreshing to finally have a family film again, sure it's derivative of other movies at times but its a pleasant under 2 hour diversion from life.

Ny family loved it. On the john campea show john who can't see it till wed said he heard Hollywood insiders talk about not just best animated movie but a best picture nod for robot. Looks like Hollywood loves this movie!

I very much doubt it will receive Best Picture nomination. Not even Del Toro's Pinocchio received a nomination and the Academy LOVES him.
