Gonna have to agree with Ben here, although I was always expecting Shrek 3 to do big numbers.

I also agree with Ben. However Shrek 3 was expected I thought to do well considering the success of 2. People taking their kiddies out to see it after 1 and 2 being a success in the household and the kiddies pestering mummy and daddy to take them to see Shrek.

Disney has work really hard to get Ratatouille known. I think they did a better job of promoting The Incredibles than promoting Cars. Dreamworks are doing a good job of promoting Shrek 3 over here in Aussie too. You turn on the radio and that is what you hear about, interviewing Cameron Diaz or win tickets to Shrek 3 by finishing this popular quote that is mentioned in Shrek etc etc etc.

Shrek 3 isn't out in the UK for over a month, but the publicity is strong since the US opening.

I wasn't saying Shrek wasn't going to be a hit, but you have to admit that early word could have been 50/50 split on if it was going to be huge OR a moderate hit. I never thought Shrek would fail, but expectations from the public AND the studio - who were very quiet - didn't indicate the level that this one has done in so few days.

Shrek 3 always looked to do great at the boxoffice. The last family movie was, wait... Meet the Robinsons? And the second movie was the most-grossing animated movie of all time?
Shrek the Third is a hit, but not a surprise hit. And did you notice how much it fell this weekend? Ouch....

Wait for Ratatouille and you'll see how WOM will get this thing above The Incredibles.

I checked Rotten tomatoes--according to them Shrek the Third has already hit 200 million, and it's barely been out a week. I'd say it's doing just fine. :)

I still think Ratatouille will do quite well though. When I saw STT over the weekend, the trailer got a pretty good response. :)

Jim Hill article on the Mouse talking lowering the expectations of Ratatouille as if it doesn't do well, it's not going to be talked about how it was a major dissapointment or something like that.

They better do more marketing with "The most original comedy of the year" That should bring audiences in.

Eh, I dunno, a lot of movies pull stuff like that...Personally I think they could be marketing this more. Haven't seen a whole bunch of stuff outside of the internet or movie theater yet.

Even though it's Pixar for some reason I think it has a very "old-fashioned classic Disney" look to it--if that makes any sense. Mostly in Remy's design and movement.

I think it'll do well. :)

What the heck is wrong with the comments section on Jim's page? I can't read half of them, they're spread out ACROSS THE PAGE and partly mixed with black background....?

Maybe it's a temporary error....hope it gets fixed...:?

I finally watched the nine-minute preview though rats!! I couldn't keep it on my hardrive. :P  (only the trailers) I thought it was just so cute and imaginative, especially the "imaginary" Gusteau from Remy's imagination. Priceless. Eye-popping animation and very well directed. :)

(It's a shame about Brad Bird hopping over to live-action. I hope it's only temporary. :( )

Try this link:

And if anyone is interested: a new japanese trailer has been released (link found at Pixar Planet forums)

http://www.disney.co.jp/movies/remy/yok ... _500k.html

One more thing: SFDD from CGtalk forums posts one of the first brief impressions from early Ratatouille screening which took place a couple days ago during Pixar Wrap Party :)

"I was fortunte to be invited to the Pixar wrap party for Ratatouille held last night. I have to tell you: this is by far--without a doubt--the most gorgeous CG film ever produced. The trailers available in theaters don't do it justice. You're going to see some CG work that will absolutely blow your minds!

Oh yeah, and it was fun to see Steve Jobs wearing something other than that tired turteneck, though his tux was sort of turtleneck-ish too.

Go see this movie when it comes out! Congrats to all Pixar people here; you've outdone yourselves (and each of us too) on this one."
