Re: Harry Knowles: It's nice that the AICN guys like the movie, but who ever decided that they were the authority on this stuff? I've heard it said that AICN can make or break a movie with their criticism and I have to ask, why? What makes Harry Knowles any different from Roger Ebert, Leonard Maltin or even Joe Shmoe at the video store? Knowles has always seemed to me to be a webmaster with delusions of grandeur, thinking himself far more important than he actually is or ever could be. I'm sure Wall-E is going to be great, but I just can't figure out why AICN has as much credibility as it does. Any ideas?

Nope - AICN can really have terrible taste at times.

Re: AICN. They have a big influence because they use capitals and lots of exclamation points.

It's essentially because they were among the first fan boys out there to kick up a fuss about movies...so the other fan boys, who prefer to follow rather than lead, just ended up reading it all, the result being that AICN wound up being one of the most-read (because it was one of the first) and therefore influential blogs on the web.

It directly speaks to fan boys in their fan boy language, and Knowles and his gang are closer to the pulse of what those readers will feel about commercial movie product than an Eberts or other, perhaps more "establishment" professional critic might be saying.

I remember I was watching the Reservoir Dogs 15th Anniversary DVD bonus features with my family and Knowles kept popping up. We were, "Who the heck is this guy? Where the heck is Tarantino?" If I recall correctly, he also managed to find his way onto the Animatrix bonuses. Probably bummed that he didn't get the Kevin Smith role in Live Free or Die Hard, eh?

Anyway, one week to WALL-E. Can't wait.

I saw Wall-E today.

Best Pixar film ever? Yes, possibly.

It depends on your likes. If you're more into robots than toys, superheroes or french cooking, then yes.

Better than automobiles for me. Better than monsters. Better than insects.

Better than fish.

Heartbreakingly wonderful.

You will love it. You may love it more than your current favorite.
