I agree Ben, why go backwards when we have an already existing forward story that has never been explored on film.

Is the world really demanding to know about Wonka before the Factory?
No, of course not--But we're getting one anyway, for the exact same reason that the Gremlins are getting a cartoon series, in another thread: Warner's PANICKING.

Up through the 00's, they relied on the "Holy trinity" of Batman, Harry Potter and Peter Jackson's Tolkien to pay the studio's bills, but Fantastic Beasts killed off Harry, the Hobbit Trilogy antagonized the Tolkien estate out of more films, and Zack Snyder buried Batman.
Now, Warner needs a new Money-Making Pop-Culture Franchise, and they've been going back through a shopping list of 80's-90's cult favorites to find out which one audiences will sit up and bark to...And Willy Wonka (both Depp and Wilder) has been at the top of the list.

And even that list is getting shorter: Nobody cared that Blade Runner came back, audiences barely even realized Doctor Sleep was an "iconic" Shining sequel, Harley Quinn just struck out again, a Matrix revival is taking forever to get going, they just can't seem to get the right NBA star for that Space Jam revival, and I'm getting the proverbial "Really bad feeling" about the upcoming Wonder Woman. Now they're pinning everything on that Scooby-Doo movie.
Oh well, there's always Elf and A Christmas Story every December.

Yes, and whatever Tom & Jerry can corporately cross-plug in their own direct-video cartoons--Like Willy Wonka, Wizard of Oz, WWE, Sherlock Holmes...
(Too bad they couldn't have done "Tom & Jerry Meet The Shining"--Tom's sent flying, gets knocked through a door, lands in a bathtub, and sees the Bathtub Lady (Tom-shriek!!)...)

Basic rule of thumb: If it gets either a T&J crossover-video or an episode of "Scooby-Doo & Guess Who?", it's already in Warner's franchise wind-tunnel for testing.

WWE is the only crossover Tom & Jerry never got around to. Which is surprising considering so many have; Flintstones, Jetsons, and Scooby Doo. (twice!)
