I'm looking forward to these, even though these teasers have been our for a year or so now.
Donkey Xote is being put together while Nocturna hasn't even really been animated yet from what I understand.
But both look good in their own way (easily more excited to see an original pice like Nocturna than the Shrek-Donkey-clone version of the other one, plus how much more gorgeous the hand-drawn looks over the CGI).
But...both looking good, and proof that European animation is bouncing back bigger and better than ever!
Now, if only we could get some of those films actually shown outside their respective countries...!

Anyone Heard of Nocturna?
Nocturna is a film made by a 2D animation company called Filmax. They haven't done much, only one other 2D film called The Legend of Cid and they are working on their third film, Mr. Collieu. Nocturna was a fantastical 2D adventure about how the world of dreams and night things exists right here on our plane, and only comes out after dark. Tim, an orphan, is fearful of the night and must save the world of Nocturna before he can overcome his fear. It was beautiful and enchanting, in my opinion.
Has anyone else seen it? Here's some more information about it:

Re:
It was a little plot light compared to some other films but if you like films such as Monster's Inc. or Nightmare before Christmas where they explain the worlds behind this world (in M'sI - the world of monsters, TNBC - Holidays) - this explains the night. How dreams are made, where dew comes from, why things go creak in the night. It's not as mature as a Ghibli film but the art is beautiful.
Sadly, there's no plans for a theatrical release. However, it's being shown at the New York International Children's Film Festival right now:

I bought it on DVD for $30 in the English Dub. The DVD case is in French, but the menu texts and film audio are in English, however there are no English subtitles. The disc is Region 2 so it requires a region-free player (most laptops have this, or higher-end DVD players) but the audio and visual quality and great. I love this movie!
It's too bad it never came to America but in a country dominated by animated films like Shrek, how can you expect something so artsy to succeed?

In a word...yes, and I've merged your thread with some others that we already had running.Neal wrote:Anyone Heard of Nocturna?
Filmax's previous film was actually El Cid: The Legend, also known as The Legend Of El Cid in some territories. Filmax has a great many projects in development, and I'm a bit of a fan of them, actually.
I'm sorely tempted to pick up the French R2 (is that what you have?) of Nocturna, and the Spanish edition of El Cid, since neither look like they will make it to US shelves.
Also look out for Pinocchio 3K, which did get a US release, something I'm hoping may still happen for Nocturna once it's played the festivals.

Re:
Ben - Yes, I have the French R2 (to the best of my knowledge). The box is in French, the menus are in English, the audio can be in English. There's no English subtitles, sadly.
And it had no bonus content.
I thought I was getting this version:

...but mine had no making of or anything. However, being able to get the movie in English was worth it alone.
