Cars 2

Post by Daniel » June 4th, 2007, 3:26 am

In conjunction with the front page:
Having heard rumors of a sequel to Cars, Blue Sky Disney, now points to MiceAge, whose sources claim that Cars 2 is scheduled for 2009. The word was published by MiceAge as the Editor's Daily Note for Wednesday, May 30. Nonetheless, one should certainly take the speculation with a grain of salt, since no official confirmation for the sequel has arrived. Meanwhile, both sites agree that a new Cars short film is in the works, to be released possibly next year.

What are your thoughts on this? Personally, I find it a little hard believe. Seems to sudden for a sequel, much less one that nobody expected to. Than again, Pixar is known for keeping things under wrapped, so it is possible.

With that in mind, if this does turn out to be true, I think its a... good decision? Half of me says "no, it was a perfect stand alone film" but the other half says, "Cars is the kind of movie that could benefit from a sequel" in short, I'm undecided. :?

Even if this all proves to be false, its cool were at least getting a new short! Loved the Mater one!

Edit; confirmed, logo: (subject to change)

This sounds pretty hokey to me as well - a new animated short I can buy, but a sequel is a different matter.

I think they stretched what could be done with that format in the movie itself.

The story is done, the characters redeemed, and the movie wasn't the "classic" that was expected.

If Ratatouille can stand up to the other box-office bohemoths around it this summer, I expect it to do much better than Cars. I said if...

No way to what? More Cars? Or that Rat may better it at the BO...?

Ratatouille will no doubt be better than Cars. Cars was the weakest Pixar movie in my opinion. Which isn't saying it was bad at all. It was really good. Just not AS good as the other pixar films.

Plus, Ratatouillie has Brad Bird, and I can't NOT expect good things from that.

Totally agree about the Brad Bird comment!

I'm thinking the former. And yeah, I agree. I was just being myself, and not taking everything into account. Darn my love of sequels! :P

I don't really want Pixar to make a Cars 2, it might mess up the first one. :P

I think this debunks the Cars 2 in 2009 rumor:

Pixar's 2009 film will be called "Up". not sure what this is yet, but I know there've been non stop rumors going on about the 2009 gap in Pixar's release slate.

According to Boxofficemojo.com, that gap has been filled by a movie called Up.

I'm assuming this is the next project from Monsters, Inc. director Pete Docter.

I'm am glad that the rumours for 2009 will stop. Now they will be making rumours about JCoM.

This is the (non-existent) Cars 2 thread.

We're talking about "Up" here:
