I'd never even heard of Little Match Girl before the Cartoon Brew report. They didn't even mention if it was hand-drawn or CGI. I am hoping to see it soon and find out more about its production. Was it ever going to be part of Fantasia 2006? Who knows? Not every short they've done recently or have in the pipe now was intended to be part of it. And I wouldn't be surprised at all if a third Fantasia was eventually made. Seems like something Roy would want to do.

Hand-drawn.

Yeah, I think it originally was going to be a part of Fantasia, like Lorenzo, One-by-one, destino I think... etc.

One or two more of these and you COULD release it in a Fantasia, with some padding from the original.

I can't wait for this release. Some absolutely choice animation there.

I would like to see a new Fantasia, but not in 2006...Nothing special about 2006. 2010 would be better - the year sounds nicer. :P

I agree. But they would have to really rush to complete one even for 2010 now.

I think I've read the book that's based on - if I remember correctly it has a pretty sad ending.

It's great that it willl be included on the Little Mermaid DVD, I might have to consider picking it up.

Yeah it used to be on a story tape my mother played for me when I was a child. I had it in a book too - One New Year's Eve a poor little girl was out selling matchsticks. She was hungry and freezing, and afraid to go home as she had not sold any matchsticks, and her father would beat her. She tried to warm herself by lighting her matches; in their light she saw a succession of comforts, each disappearing as the matches went out. By the light of the next match she saw her grandmother, the only person who ever loved her. Hoping to keep her grandmother as long as possible, she quickly lit the whole bunch of matches. Her grandmother then lifted her in her arms and they flew up to heaven. The next morning her frozen body was found with a smile upon its lips, and with a burned out bunch of matches.

Yeah....but I bet it's made for an amazing short. Did you see the video footage on that link? Oh how I miss animation which makes me feel so moved like when I watched even those short clips!
